Carlo ‘n’ Roberto, Sittin’ in a Tree, Or: When Google Translate Goes Too Far
By: Martha | January 29th, 2007
Speaking on Italian radio earlier today, Carlo Ancelotti spent most of his time talking about his team’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League next year (”We are struggling and are not at our best, due to the summer scandal. We had to change our plans and this has caused many injuries, which did not allow us play the first half of the season as we could have.”) and the girth of his new striker (”Ronaldo fat? I don’t think so, he is just sturdy and has an imposing figure.”). He did, however, find a few minutes to talk about his goals for the future, a list that apparently includes a stint at the Azzurri helm. But not, he hasten to add, at the expense of Roberto Donadoni, a “friend” who he trusts will continue to guide the team at least through the 2010 World Cup.
And, because the Italian press apparently works at the speed of light, La Gazetta dello Sport has already tracked down Donadoni for his response, which has been published under the headline “Ancelotti stimulates to me.” Ew. And, if that’s not troubling enough, he went on to say: “And it does not say sure a technician of third category, but one to it of the greatest trainers in circulation. Words that will serve to me from ulterior stimulus.” Ulterior what now?
I don’t know about you, but I just don’t need to know this much about the things that go on between managers in Italy. Please, for the love of God: What happens at those managerial confabs needs to stay at those managerial confabs.

I know this is not the same thing at all but one of my favourite spell check corrections of all time was for “Diego Maradona” which used to become “Dingo Macaroni”…
