Gattuso has competition for a starting spot in midfield.

Cassano and Del Piero can still hope for call-ups to Euro 2008. Why? Because players going to Euro 2008 need an anti-tick vaccine (haven’t they ever heard of bug spray?), so the FIGC has contacted the clubs of 48 players that Donadoni has on his possible selection list and has told them to administer the vaccine to these players. The article doesn’t give the full list (if anyone can find this list they will get some kind of grand recognition, because I’ve been searching all day), but it does mention some names. You can forget about the third keeper being Torino’s Matteo Sereni, as he is not on the list. Morgan De Sanctis and Christian Abbiati are on the list, so it looks like one of those two will be the 3rd keeper. There are even some surprising names, like Aimo Diana and David Di Michele of Torino, Marco Marchionni of Juventus, and Dario Dainelli and Manuel Pasqual of Fiorentina. Which brings us to the striker news- Antonio Cassano, Alessandro Del Piero, and Pippo Inzaghi are all on the list, so it means Donadoni hasn’t forgotten about those three. Also on the list is Alessandro Nesta, but that must be some kind of typo or Nesta may just want the vaccine anyway to protect himself from ticks this summer.

Next is news about Donadoni’s contract saga. For the past few months we’ve all heard the stories of Donadoni refusing an extension, meeting with President Abete, whining about the contract, etc. Abete had originally offered Donadoni a 2 year contract, however with a clause included that stated Donadoni could be fired if he did not reach the semi-final. Donadoni continued to refuse the contract, saying he did not want a contract with clauses. But now it seems that Donadoni is ready to accept that same contract. Why the change of heart? The answer is money. The FIGChave offered the same contract to Donadoni, a 2 year extension which would take him to June 2010, with his salary increasing from 1.4 million a year to 2 million a year. The semi-final clause is still in there, but now if the FIGC decided to axe Donadoni for not reaching the final four, they will have to pay him 1 million euro. So Donadoni at least wants some compensation money if he gets fired. What if he goes out in the group stage? Do they still have to pay 1 million euro? There should be some kind of pay scale. Group Stage Exit- he gets paid 1 euro. Quarter-Final exit- he gets paid 100 euro. Semi-final exit- 1,000 euro. Final exit- 100,000 euro.

what a moron, Aimo Diana is the worst player on Torino by far. Plus he looks exactly like a 1970’s circus clown.

ricci - hahahaha i completely agree!

francesco - ‘Also on the list is Alessandro Nesta, but that must be some kind of typo or Nesta may just want the vaccine anyway to protect himself from ticks this summer.” = i died laughing hahah…wouldnt it be awesome if nesta came out of retirement and hellped us win the euro?!?!?!?

stupid donadoni i was reallly hopeinghe would reject the contract, the FIGC told him to shove it up his ass and they brought lippi back all is good in the world and we win the euro cup!! i think that if he gets out in the group stage his reward is a kick in the balls and if he gets out in the quaters he gets a fruit basket, semis he gets 50 cents euro (in canada its almost a dollar) and the finals he gets 5 euro or less depending on the score, if we get creamed he gets….another fruit basket:)

how in the world did Aimo the Clown make this list?!?!?! That’s ridiculous! Third keeper should easily be Jimmy Fontana…and not just because Im a Palermo supporter. The man is amazing besides the fact he’s 67 years old.

oh and too bad we don’t have a full list somewhere because it’d also be interesting to see if Amauri was on that list as a possible call-up. plus, that’d stir up all sorts of debate again.

What 6 strikers do you want to see?

Personally, my selection would be : Toni, Borriello, Del Piero, Di Natale, Quagliarella and can’t decide between Pippo or Iaqinta (if there’s a 6th)..

I think there will be only 5, and I think Donadoni will select Di Natale, Toni, Quagliarella, Del Piero, Pippo

Francesco, you’re forgetting Iaquinta and Borriello. Scratch Pippo, Donadoni’s never been a huge fan methinks.

Toni, Di Natale, and Quagliarella are all locks. They will definitely be going. The other two spots are open. Even though Borriello has had an amazing season and is top scorer, I don’t think Donadoni will bring him, just because he’s inexperienced. I think Donadoni will succumb to media pressure and bring Del Piero as well. Also, I think Donadoni has always been a big fan of Pippo, he was a consistent call-up for most of Donadoni’s tenure, and now that he’s scoring again Donadoni will give him the back-up Toni spot instead of Borriello.

Out of the 12 qualifying matches, Pippo played in 4, if I’m not mistaken and scored 3 goals.. 2nd top scorer behind Toni..

Borriello only has 2 caps to his name.. He’s had 1 great season, definetly in form, but who was he before this season?..

What’s obvious is that he’s definetly taking Toni, Di Natale.

    Iaqinta is injured..

It looks like the list nick, but that’s just the list they put on the euro 2008 official website of players that have made at least one appearance in qualifying. Also that can’t be the list because Morgan De Sanctis isn’t listed.

Dont be surprised if Nesta isnt a typo, he has been playing with some serious fire and would very much expect a change of heart from him. Only time will tell…

The way Materazzi has been been playing lately it would be the greatest thing in the world if Nesta came back.
