Odds and Ends Headed into Week 21
By: Martha | January 26th, 2007
•Remember that Parma auction? Well, sucker savvy businessman Tommaso Ghirardi bought the club yesterday. Ghirardi — who is only 31 bloody years old — won the auction with a reported bid of about $40 million. I can’t find any information about where he got his money, but one assumes it’s not revenue from the other club he owns, fourth division side Carpenedolo.
•It appears Ronaldo’s medical this morning went pretty well, because he’s already feeling sure enough of the transfer to be talking smack about his previous gig: “Madrid is hell for me and working with Fabio Capello was a nightmare.” Hmm. OK. Next time, could you tell us how you really feel, please? And was it hell because Capello told you to lose some damn weight?
•According to an Italian wire service, Kaka was “visibly moved” by the arrival of his Brazil colleague at Milan. I’m trying not to think about the exact details of the visibility of his moved-ness, but suffice to say that he’s tickled to bits at the idea of playing behind his homie and childhood idol. (In case Pippo Inzaghi is reading and got his hopes up for second, both of those things refer to Ronaldo, not to you.)
•Marcello Lippi is getting unexpected pleasure from his new life as a man of leisure, so much so that he’s considering extending his “coaching sabbatical” into next season. Really, what’s the point in hurrying back? As long as he stays away, he’s “the World Cup-winning coach,” as opposed to, say, “the failed new manager of AC Milan.”

I dunno. There’s a certain not-unpleasantness involved in the thought of Kaka’s being “visibly moved.”
I mean…um…wait. I was thinking about tears and stuff. What were YOU thinking about? ;-)
