And The Award for Most Awkward Translation Ever Goes To …

By: Martha | May 11th, 2007

BrilloEveryone who has ever tried to read anything translated by the Googlebot knows how utterly cracked-out the automated translations can be. For example, this is somehow about Gila going to France: “E’ the eternal ambition of the champions of France: to find one heads of weight that makes the difference in Champions League and that it allows to at least pass to the threshold taboo of the quarters of end.” I rest my case.

In order to read these pieces of glorious insanity, you have to be able to think like Yoda — or perhaps how Yoda would think if he was high. Much better, usually, are the translations at Channel 4 (Though they often translate in ways that make things sound more scandalous than they actually are, at least the stories are comprehensible.) and Goal.com, both of which employ actually humans to do the work.

Today, however, Goal.com fell below even Google translate and its constant “arguments gay.” In translating a piece about Ivan Cordona’s post-Coppa-Italia-thrashing press conference — in which he, like the rest of his team, admitted Inter completely sucked — Goal.com’s human translator chose to illustrate Cordoba’s statements with the following graceful words: “The 6-2 enema obviously caused wincing and tears but the veteran was taking it like a man.”

*shudder*

I mean, JESUS — talk about too vivid a metaphor. Excuse me while I go scrub my brain in an effort to remove that image.

I’m torn between cracking up and wondering what the heck whoever wrote that was thinking. Seriously, an enema?

goal.com is always good for those type of discriptions, although some are just wrong.

An example of this, one time while talking about some player who had a great game the following was writen…”he went for it the way a pitbull goes for a toddler” now that’s just sick!
