Saturday Morning News, Or: While I Was Out
By: Martha | May 19th, 2007
Just so you know, I had three flights canceled in less than two days. Clearly I have done something to deeply offended the Aviation Gods.
•In case you’ve been under a rock (or on a really, really long plane flight): Despite losing the game, Roma won the Coppa. They were pleased.
•Best headline of the last 48 hours: Inzaghi-Gila Thunderdome* — through some miracle they’re both fit, and Carlo Ancelotti will actually have to make a choice of striker when he fills out his lineup card Wednesday.
•According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Figo’s agents are “are working in order to blow up the agreement with To the Ittihad” so he can stay around at Inter. Man, if only. From their pens to God’s ears.
•Luca Toni will miss the last two weeks after having surgery on his foot and is also a doubt for Italy’s June Euro qualifiers, the bastard. The decision makes it more than likely he’s played his last game for the Viola since, even if the Bayern story isn’t true, the odds of him leaving are sky high.
•Nesta will be at Milan forever and ever. See? He told you he didn’t want to go back to Lazio. Jeez.
•Speaking of Milan, the Ferrari Formula 1 team seems to have developed an AC Milan-themed car, and the team were recently trotted out to “Ooooh!” and “Ahhhh!” over its sporty loveliness. Maldini, in particular, seemed to like how the car looked, at least with him sitting on it.
•Oh good, Maurizio Zamparini is in another rage — this should be fun. This time, the object of his ire is Lazio president Claudio Lotito who wants Stephen Makinwa (co-owned by the two clubs), Andrea Barzagli and Christian Zaccardo but is apparently unwilling to pay what Zampa wants. Trying to get good players on the cheap? Of all the bloody cheek!
•If those skinflints at Lazio don’t pony up for him, Barzagli may (or may not) be close to joining Milan. Say it ain’t so!
*Surely I’m not the only one who finds the thought of Pippo in a steel cage with anyone deeply disturbing. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to sleep.
