Goals of the Week
By: chris | February 18th, 2008I’ve stolen this from Sam at the France Offside and nearly every other weekly wrap up show in existence. I’ll give 3-5 goals of the week and you vote for the winner down below. Got it? Cool.
The Link (Sebastian Giovinco & Nicola Pozzi)
Now that’s a pretty pass.
The Slalom (Antonio Cassano & Christian Maggio)
It may have been a better weekend for the goal creators than goal scorers.
The Angle (Francesco Modesto)
He had absolutely no business whatsoever scoring this goal. (FF to the 3:00 mark)
The Strike (Adrian Mutu)
Just don’t give him space like that, got it?
The Janitor (Juan Manuel Vargas)
JMV stays behind to clean up the mess and put it back where it belongs.

Roma fans can’t handle the truth.
Totti sucks and so does Roma..
What’s new……….Roma always falls apart……every year.
When was the last time ROma won anything…

Actually, that Modesto goal was the business. That would be the best “goal” of the week. As for best overall play? You can’t deny Cassano’s absolute dicing of the Genoa defence. Yikes…
If he continues to play like this and keep his flare ups to a minimum, you gotta think you’ll be seeing him in the summer.

chris, i understand you are a roma fan but when there is a nice goal one should swallow their pride and give credit where credit is due. i would expect this kind of bullshit from an interista but i thought romanistas were better than that…guess i was wrong

Vargas’ goal was sick. But I voted for Modesto. It’ll be a cold day in hell before I respect anything by catania.

My vote is going to The Slalom. Cassano’s run/setup was insane.
ADP put a good strike on the ball for that free kick, but it should never have gone in. Doni eff’ed it up. He should have saved it.

Chris, I know we disagree regarding Roma/Palermo, but I believe our stance on Inter is the same. Mancini questioning the media regarding goals, give me a break. And this is coming from a guy who thinks the italian media is a joke.

Vargas is a top notch player. I wish he were on our side though.

sofia, if it was top 5, I would have. I hate Mutu way more than I’ll ever hate ADP. He’s on here. Fact is, ADP’s goal wasn’t worth a whiff. End of.
I’ll always call a spade a spade. I think you’re just looking for faults too hard.

Chris, nice to see you picking up where Martha left off and best of luck to you…
but if you ever diss Del Piero again, i’m gonna get my dad on you.

chris, i have a feeling we will disagree on many things however if you hate inter than we are ok…i gotta give the new kid a hard time or it wouldn’t be any fun. i hate Mutu as well…
MikeDG - hahha is you dad in the mafia or something?

Its Sam and Corey at the France Offside Chris..
And it looks like you are in for a rough ride with all the pro-Juve cheats here

sofia, it’s cool, I get it. In all honesty I thought ADP’s goal was a well struck ball from a position where you have to score from half the time. Especially against Roma’s Wall of Midgets. Good ball, not a great goal. (And I’d say the same for Totti, Pirlo, Vannucchi, Ibrahim Ba….)
Corey, of course I know you’re there, but Sam was doing it well before you were there, therefore he gets the credit. (Unless you’re really him and decided to simply double your productivity.)

chris, yeah man no hard feelings for sure! it was a great shot and anyone that says it wasnt is lying to themselves but yeah sure one should be able to score from there, the juventini are going to make a deal about it because its ADP, hes like God to us so you have to understand. Yeah Roma is pretty small I mean Giuly alone i slike what 3 feet talll?? hahah still good game anyway :D

If anyone’s interested, my own ‘Goals of the Week’ selection from mCalcio. Modesto wins hands down in my opinion, even though Mutu’s effort is top-notch as well.
And yes, Del Piero’s free-kick features in the list (Chris admit it, you’re just really pissed at Doni on that one :))
Vargas’s slamming left-footed blast (Fiorentina-Catania)
Mutu’s surface-to-air missile right below the bar (Fiorentina-Catania)
Maggio’s finish after some marvelous work of Cassano (Genoa-Sampdoria)
Jankovic’s low finish after a great collective move (Palermo-Cagliari)
Del Piero’s beautiful free-kick, over Iaquinta’s head (Juventus-Roma)
Modesto’s left-footed blast from a very tight angle (Reggina-Udinese)Posted from

anyone watch fsc today and the serie a goals of the week? Hmm, interesting how del pieros free kick was 2nd out of the top ten. I smell controversy.

You’re right. If FSC says it was number two it clearly doesn’t belong anywhere near the top 20.
That’s your 3rd comment on that goal. You must have really loved it, huh?

Michael, gotta side with Chris on the FSC comment. Featuring in their Top10 means absolutely squat, their selection is exclusive to matches FSC owns the TV rights for. And what do you know? Juve-Roma was live on both FSC and FSWC (the Canadian version) this week-end.
In other words, they can never choose goals from the *entire* week-end of soccer matches, leaving many nice goals out. Plus they are heavily MLS/EPL-biased…

agreed on all your statements. I was only trying to justify the goal as top five worthy. I am a juve fan as you could tell and am trying to give all the credit due to a world class player who is near the end of his career. I want him to play in the euros.

in the words of Zamparini, “Mutu is a gypsy.”
That is all.

i dont care what FSC shows or not we all can agree it was a beautiful strike with style and flare only ADP can bring to this beautiful game so get over it…
