Quick Odds and Ends Ahead of the Weekend
By: Martha | September 14th, 2007
- Everyone and his brother are proclaiming mad love for Gila. A memo must have gone out, or something.
- The FIGC are getting serious: Angelo Pagotto was just slapped with an eight-year ban after his second positive test for cocaine. Wow. If this was in the US, he’d have taken a very high-profile, very short trip to rehab and found Jesus by now, but since he’s 34 already I guess that sort of penance wouldn’t do much to help the career.
- Adriano’s mom, who seems to avoided reading the papers all summer, is thanking Inter for keeping faith with her son. Well, yeah, but only if by “keeping faith” she means “having to keep him because it was too late when we realized he truly is useless.” Oh, and she’s also flying to Milan to sort him out. Poor woman.
- Already the highest-paid player in Serie A, Kaka may or may not have just scored a big salary increase that will take him from €6 million/season to an astonishing (at least for Italy) €8 million. He’s already on a long-term contract, but it’s being reported that Milan wanted to make sure their Precious was safe from Real’s advances, and thought it best to amp up their payments to him and extend the contract by a year.

whenever I hear the word memo I always think about this:

What you really mean is that Maldini & Co are praying fervently that Gila regains form. And, of course, Milan can afford to up Kaka’s salary - they’ve got plenty of Shevchenko/Ronaldinho cash left over.
And that is just too sweet of Adriano’s mother to show up to support her son. Although possibly a bit late…
All sarcasm aside, I feel sorry for the lady, trying to rescue someone who may or may not want help… It’s rough.
