The Last Post on Inter’s Title, I Swear
By: Martha | April 23rd, 2007![]()
After carefully going through all the photos at Getty and the Inter website of the team’s endless celebration last night, I’ve come to the conclusion that Dejan Stankovic really likes to party. Though he put some clothes on when he left the locker room (only to lose them again later), he nevertheless appears in virtually every picture, usually giving someone a sloppy hug. To his credit, however, he seems to hold his liquor much better than, say, Adriano and Ibra. But we knew that already, didn’t we? Also not surprising is that, despite being on a plane surely stocked with every alcohol known to man, Matrix’s beverage of choice is still Budweiser. Nice one, Matrix. Very nice.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, meanwhile, was the perpetually pulled together and adult Javier Zanetti, who seems to have either spent the night entirely sober, or is very, very good at masking the effects of alcohol. Well, either that or he’s actually a happy robot. Which, if you think about it, would explain a lot.
In other, sightly less drunk Inter news, Mancini’s contract was secretly extended (oh that Moratti, he’s such a Joker) ages ago, and he’ll apparently be at the club at least through 2011. Which means the Mourinho dream, sadly, is at an end.

I have no explanation for my clicking, but the Inter site clearly knows where my loyalties lie, for it won’t let me see the pictures!

Matrix is such a Bud guy. Fun seeing the team celebrate so hard. I expect a post about one of them getting into a pub fight any minute now.

Really? It DOES know you, Ruby, b/c tho I think they eventually shut down the hotlinking, it’s still working for me. Try again, dammit — you must see Matrix with his Bud.

Hmm, according to this interview, Materazzi claims he doesn’t drink alcohol. But I suppose winning the scudetto is always reason enough for an exception, eh? Zanetti said in his similar interview that he also isn’t a drinker, which seems consistent with yesterday’s celebrations.
And Adriano in a wig is just great. He may have been suspended for the match, but you know he isn’t one to miss a party.

Has anyone failed to notice that Inter stated this championship race with Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina being docked points, and the non appearance of Juventus. Hardly a classic win seeing as the teams did not start on an even playing field. Still a hollow victory if you ask me. Lets see what happens next year when the real competition begins.

Not to worry, Julie — everyone has noticed! (: It’s been in the press pretty much weekly, and has been mentioned with varying degrees of snideness by many chairmen.

OK let me set the record straight for some of you folks out there. You’re right, is not a classic title win for La Beneamata. It was damn right Ownership of the title!! A mochery of all other teams!! Lets break this down to even playing fields for ya:
Without the “ever devestating” points Deductions for the listed cheaters… here is how your standings would look:
Inter 84, Roma 68, Milan 64, Fiorentina 62, Lazio 60 Palermo 49. This doesn’t change the fact that Inter would have already clinched. Now lets see how Inter faired against the teams that were deemed cheaters: Uhhh… THEY OWNED THE DERBY this year!! They beat Fiorentina twice and they have played and beat Lazio once so far.
What else…..? oh yeah…. they won the Scudetto with 5 games left to play. Winning it this early has only been done twice before. Torino in 47/48, Fiorentina 55/56. That’s right!! This is a feat that has not been accomplished in 51 years!! Oh yeah its also something that the “Old Bag” and Milan have never done…..
Ummmmm I seem to recall a massive 17 game winning streak in the campionato. A mark that has never been reached EVER before by any team, in any Big 5 League championship play in Europe…..
This was anything but classic. It was a pure domination from start to end. The made a mess of everyone! And bring Juve back next year… I can’t wait for that!! Hopefully I am not coming off as snippy but if I am its a bit warranted. Give credit, where credit is due. The excuses are old and are exactly that….. EXCUSES. Inter dominated and are the best team in Italian Football!!
FORZA INTER!!!!!!!

I’m totally biased since I’m an Inter fan as well, but I completely agree with Paolo. Let’s also not overlook that Inter are collecting more points per game than Juve are in Serie B, even if you account for Juve’s points deduction. I just don’t think anyone can seriously question the dominance of Inter’s campaign (though next year is a new year). Plus, it’s not Inter’s fault if other teams decided to cheat.

And they need just 3 points to obtain the most points ever taken in a Serie A Season!! Next year is a new year. I have bit my lip all year listening and reading about how this won’t be a real title for Inter. C’mon, its as real as it gets and you cannot take anything away from them! Now that it has happened, I felt the need to vent a little!!

Julie i must agree this is such a stupid victory and i think inter should bask in it while they can because next year wont be this easy once everyone is back on even playing fields…
OFFICIALLY sick of hearing about inter’s hollow victory… did anyone catch the interview with the president after they won? when he said “at least we didnt have to steal it this time”…..sad

What I don’t get is how anyone can criticize Inter. Contrary a popular phrase…. It seems like the cheaters USED TO win. Say what you will, deep down inside you know you cannot deny truly how remarkable and dominating of a win this is for Inter. I take satisfaction in knowing what you know but you dare not admit it!! The points deduction has nothing to with how Inter performed, nor has Juve’s Abscence. The real diff, if I might argue for minute, the refs are on the field and not in someone’s pocket! enough said…… Inter haters, go ahead and say/write anythig that will make you feel better about the Scudetto gracing La Camicia Nerazzurro next season!!

hmm sorry paolo i just looked deep down but still didnt seem to find that part of me that believes inter deserve to win….you want to know the true difference? the difference is how weak serie a has gotten this season i mean if you look at la liga in spain the top three teams are something like 1 point difference between them, no that is a league…this is just stupid…inter dont deserve anything and i dont care if you say im an inter hater or whatever becasue i am especially when the president openly says that they didnt steal THIS scudetto! seriously who the hell says that? so you go ahead and take satisfaction in the fact that no one other than inter fans even slightly care about them and every time someone play against them the entire country(except for inter fans) are cheering against inter… please inter and all their fans know what a hollow victory this was. yes well inter should know all about cheaters huh seeing as they stole juves scudetto and openly admit to it too….hahahahahahahahahahhahahhaha inter remarkable? hahahaha i dont know that i can stop laughing hahahahahaha phew finally i was rolling on the floor…please they werent even great nevermind “remarkable”. inter deserve absolutely nothing

Sofia, you are essentially arguing that Inter are less deserving than (for example) Barcelona, because their lead is so much larger? I think if you were to sit back, take a deep breath, and read what you’re writing, you’d see quite the void in your logic. Do not forget that Inter cannot be blamed if Milan were terribly inconsistent (no way they can use their deduction as an excuse), failed to come close to contending, and lost both derbies.
Also, I believe you misunderstood Moratti. I’m unable to find this quote of yours (perhaps you can provide it), but his comment was probably in reference to Juve’s match fixing of recent years; it was a ‘quip’, an example of subtlety. You could learn from him.

no what i am saying is that i cant understand why inter can be soo happy about their victory when the competition sucks. seriously i dont know why but somehow serie a weakened drastically over the summer…i do plan to figure this one out though… and i never felt inter were deserving of anything but anyways im saying la liga is now a much stronger and more interesting league than serie a and as an italian i find that very sad and embarassing that our league is now less reputable than the spanish league. as far as the quote goes i read it in the newspaper here in Toronto and the exact quote is “we have won without stealing” if you want to see the article the link is: http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/206075. and never ever say I could learn from inter unless it is how to be the most hated club in italy.

Okay, Moratti is clearly poking fun at Juve’s past attempts at ’stealing’ the scudetto. Moving on…
As for the general weakness of Serie A, you may be correct, but it doesn’t change that Inter are undoubtedly the strongest team in Italy. There is nothing wrong with them/us wanting to enjoy the title. You’re more than welcome to avoid the celebrations if you are so disinclined.
Also, every other team played against the same schedule in the same ‘weak’ Serie A, yet it is only Inter that emerged dominant. This is to their credit.

Apparently we’ll just agree to disagree. You say the competiton stunk & I think Inter was that good. Just curious, what was it? did everyone else stink or did Inter have the unfair advantage? Anything you said would have held subsatnce had the points deductions prevented another team from taking the title, but then the competition wouldn’t have stunk, would it have? Have a nice time watching La Liga.

you know honestly you are not seeing my point and you know i will agree to disagree because i can see that i am talking to a wall here and as for moratti poking fun at juve, i really doubt it because when i watched juve play against genoa on the weekend that actaually looked more like a serie a match than any game i have watched this season in serie a. which is obviously very sad and i can assure you that juve do not need to cheat in order to win the scudetto because it wasnt the players or the coaches fault it was the asshole luciano moggi who i hear is being hired by ac milan… but anyway him and couple of idiots decided to pick and choose their referees which does not make the fans or the team bad people it makes the guilty parties complete and utter idiots…. anyways enjoy you celebrations while they last and i will not ever participate in any kind of inter celebrations but thats my opinion… and actually i do have a nice time watching la liga because it is a very strong league which makes the games more interesting. just for the record i want to say that all of this is personal opinion and that i do not think less of you for having an opinon quite the opposite of mine.

Likewise, I don’t take anything personally and my intentions are not for anyone else to either. Despite the circumstances, this has been a long time coming for the club and its fans. Most of my freinds are Juve or Milan supporters and we’re always bickering back & forth. Since Inter didn’t make their usual art form of blowing it this year, most Inter fans are happy about it. La Liga is a good league to watch I do catch some of the games, as well as the EPL. Cheers!

haha i know what you mean many of my friends are inter or milan fans some were supporting france in WC Final so we have some interesting exchanges lol but at the end of the day we are still friends….yes la liga is pretty good the real madrid vs valencia and real madrid vs barcelona were excellent games! i watch mostly real madrid games just to see what cannavaro will do next seeing as he hasnt been having the best of seasons lately….dont really watch EPL but definately do not like ManU…

haha I can’t stand Man-U either, Like I hate them…. PURE HATRID!! The Barca/Real Madrid match(3-3) was probably one of the best matches of the year. I watched it 3 times….. Some EPL games are not so bad, they are cool because the crowds are so intense which might make the game seem more intense.

haha oh i am rigght with u there i hate man U mostly because c.ronaldo plays for them and i cannnot stand him like i want to vomit everytime i see him haha yes i watched the barca real game a couple times too and i think i was probably one of the years best. i no EPL fans are intense becasue i have caught a couple matches but i mean they are really early on saturday mornings in T.O and i mean at 730 am i havent even began to function haha

I hear you on that. Can’t stand him either, as well as scholes, neville and most of all I hate Sir Alex Ferguson. I’m from T.O too and never have any intention of getting up that early to catch those games. I’ll catch the later ones @ 11 (if I’m up) and or 1, but don’t get me wrong I don’t make a point of it, sometimes its all that is on.
