The Latest on Adriano: Still Breathing, Still at Inter
By: Martha | August 29th, 2007
Ok, this is actually getting sad. At last count, about 137 clubs from 14 nations have turned down the chance to sign Adriano on loan, and the big Brazilian has gone into serious pout mode, muttering about how unjust his treatment has been. According to Adriano, he deserves the chance to play because Inter owe him. Seriously. “When two years ago the team was doing badly and I was the peak of my powers, I certainly didn’t dump them.” Oh, Adriano. Such a generous soul. And apparently that loyalty — though it’s anyone’s guess whether he had all the chances to leave he’s claiming were offered — has earned him the right to play ahead of other strikers who, you know, actually score. (Well, and Julio Cruz. He may have a point on that last one, actually.)
Depending on which national press you read, Adriano has been offered to Arsenal (in exchange for Tomas Rosicky, if you can believe that) and rejected, while English clubs like West Ham (who admitted as much on their website), Middlesbrough and, of course, Manchester City are rumored to be interested in possible loan deals. Closer to home, Parma are denying they were ever really interested, while Lazio have popped up as a possible destination, thanks to the respect coach Delio Rossi has for the Brazilian. (An unfortunate Google translation quotes Rossi as calling Adriano “a large one.” Indeed, Delio. Indeed.)
While his team is frantically trying to get rid of him, Adriano will be playing in the reserve and youth team Inter have sent to Baracelona for the Joan Gamper Trophy (a poorly timed, glorified friendly) today. The game is at best a fitness exercise for a handful of first-team players who are behind due to the Coppa America commitments, and I’m sure he’ll be just thrilled to play with them and the seven Primavera players who are also in the team.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out what’s wrong with these players. You took off for like two weeks last year to get your head sorted out (and detox)…seems to me Mancini and Moratti didn’t throw your fat ass under the bus. Now when you haven’t been in any kind of form for at least two years, they give you the opportunity to get some playing time in a loan deal you whine and moan about it. God, go screw yourself. Fat bastard.

Is this going to turn into another Cassano situation?

*wince* Considering how he ‘played’ against Barca (in our season opener friendly, brilliantly scheduled by the suits so that it doesn’t actually open the season, since the league started last week) Adriano should really just stop talking.
