A Bobo Sighting On the Horizon! (Knock on Wood)

The last we heard of Christian Vieri (apart from when he was busy listening to the Backstreet Boys and being robbed), he had finally finished changing clubs and was lying on an operating table in Colorado, having his knee made better, stronger, faster in order to get his career back on track with Atalanta.

Given how long he’s been injured and how many different clubs he’s been on since last summer (three?), one could be forgiven for assuming the operation would be the last time we’d hear “Vieri” and “playing football” in the same sentence. But one would be wrong! (And hooray for being wrong.) Vieri is actually back on the pitch now, having finally completed his rehab and begun training with Atalanta. Woo hoo! Barring another catastrophic injury, he’s hoping to be back in about three weeks, give to take, and to be available for the final eight-or-so rounds of the season.

At the moment, Atalanta are in eleventh in the table, but only four points from seventh. If Vieri comes back fit (a big question), his presence and proverbial nose for goal could certainly help them take a few steps up the table. And once you’re in seventh, Europe is just a few points away — who knows what could happen!
