Forget Derbies, Forget Scandals: Coco Wants to Come Back!

By: Martha | October 30th, 2007

Pretty don’t score goals.Stop press, everyone: Francesco Coco is done with his stint on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! (An adventure that, from what I can tell, consisted of fondling himself, spending time with gay men,*and being incredibly, overpoweringly boring) and ready to come back to football. Yes, that’s right: He got over his Hollywood dream without ever actually going to Hollywood, and is prepared once again to shine his ever-dimming light on Serie A. Huzzah!

Oh, and it gets better — he doesn’t just want to return to the league, he wants to return to Milan, the club with which he grew up in football and made his first professional appearance, way back in 1995. For him, you see, “calcio is like a girlfriend” you dump and don’t think you’ll miss. It turns out, though, that there’s all kinds of suffering without her, so much that he’s willing to play for free (as long as Milan give him back #77) and, by his calculation, can be useful for at least another five years.

Wow. I’m not sure what I find so fascinating about this, but it’s at least partially the ego involved. What kind of person first grandly announces his departure (surely expecting wails of protest, and people clinging to his legs, begging him not to go) and then, not even two months later, comes running back, grandly announcing his new plans? And also, Milan? Really? I could actually sort of understand it if he was an even slightly productive striker, but as it is I think they’ve got a few things to worry about before the even look at that neurotic, narcissistic defender who’s starting hanging around. I mean, Paolo Di Canio thinks rather highly of himself, but at least he had the sense to move to the lower divisions as his career was petering out. And the Great Bobo has been laboring at Atalanta and Fiorentina — you don’t see him pestering Milan, do you?

*Speaking of, why did a picture of Ricky Martin come up with I Googled “Francesco Coco”?

I wouldn’t put it past Milan to take him back. Milan have a tendency to bring back old washed up former Milan players (Ibrahim Ba is on the roster this season).

our ac milan nursing home is open for everyone.

you know your team is too old, when the youngster Pato is good friend not with a team-mate, rather the team-mate’s son , Cafu’s son.

Francesco, you guys are welcoming of the old boys, I’ll say that for you (sort of like Inter collect the old Lazio players).

And Fetyani, is that true? Jesus, Cafu must feel incredibly old.
