Italy v Turkey. Yay.

By: Martha | November 16th, 2006

MatrixThanks to the intrusion of real life, I haven’t yet watched last night’s game. It’s sitting in the Tivo (-like device) waiting for me to have some free time, but I’m not entirely convinced it’s worth watching. Thoughts? I tried to get the player ratings from the sports papers, but it turns out all the journalists (or at least the sports ones) are on strike, which for some reason I find hilarious. I wonder if they’d dare strike the day after a competitive match.

I did happen to see Di Natale’s goal when it happened — speaking of hilarious — and immediately felt pity for that poor keeper. Here he is, the backup, finally given his big chance due to injury and … oops. I wonder if they’ll ever let him on the pitch again. However, since Turkey equalized thanks to an own goal from the often donkey-like Materazzi, everything seems to have worked out in the end. From what I’ve read about the general flow of the game, Italy threatened in the first half, but Turkey were much more aggressive after Materazzi (accidentally) tied the game.* Yes? No?

Please leave and and all whining about the side/shouting at Donandoni/ranting about the glory of Corini in the comments — anyone who saw the game knows more than I do, at this point.

*Random trivia: Inter were the team of own-goalers yesterday: In addition to Materazzi’s clever work for Turkey, Maicon put one in the back of the net for Switzerland. Mancini must be so proud.
