Oh Hells Yeah!, Or: Another Season of Figo
By: Martha | June 10th, 2007
Because the universe wants me to dry my tears after the crappy way Palermo treated Corini, Inter officially announced today that — despite all the Saudi Arabia drama — Luis Figo will stay with the club for another year. Ahhhhh.
And, just for a second, all is right with the world.

no way! seriously? please let that be true! as much as I am not a fan of Inter I at least would still be able to see him play and that’s a plus in my book. so I’m hoping that’s not just a rumor.

Jina, I think the fact that the Inter site is reporting it is a very good sign — they generally refuse to confirm or even address anything, even if it’s in all the papers (see: Figo’s move to the Gulf over the winter) until it’s Officially Official.

When I first saw this news, instead of rejoicing as an Inter fan as I should have, my first thoughts were of how ‘that Martha is gonna love this.’
And it seems Figo will stay with the club beyond his playing days?

Ha — sorry, RT. (But just imagine how annoying my obsession would get if you had to deal with me in real life.)
Yeah, Inter say he’s going to “put his great experience and professionalism at the service of the club to take care of international relations,” which sounds to me like he’ll be paid a cushy salary to sit on beaches around the world. But, hey, somebody’s got to do it …
Whatever that means, it sounds like a better fit than coaching, which is what I’d originally heard he’d be doing. As a coach I imagine him being wildly exasperated about 95% of the time and killing himself (or a player) out of disgust about two weeks into his first season on the bench.

I’m glad he’s staying. So his contract was just dissolved? Just like that?

Spoken like a true Barca fan, Chris.
And it seems like it, Nelly — I AM surprised we’ve not hear from Al Ittihad, though, whether it’s to bang their fists on the table and say they’re not letting him go or to say something gracious about his release.

I am so happy for Inter maybe know that Figo has stayed they will last longer into the Champions League, but alas there is always the Coppa Italia next year my nerazzuri amicos.

If Inter want to win the Coppa Italia next season, they should really look into strengthening their team… I would recommend sticky darts, slick shoes, and bully busters/blinders.

My god, this is great news. I don’t care if he’s still on the Blue side of town, as long as he’s in Serie A and I can see him every weekend, I’m game. I think he has much to give to his team and…er Zlatan too.

I am happy he is staying and really hoping this helps bring over a player he could mentor into replacing him on the flank, say like a Ricardo Quaresma perhaps….?
