Someday, I Will Go a Whole January Without Talking About Figo
By: Martha | January 3rd, 2008
That’s going to have to wait until 2009, though, because Luis Figo’s agent is talking about the MLS rumors, and has more or less said they’re crap. Which, obviously, could be Clever Agent-Style Deceit, but also could mean there’s nothing going on right now. Whatever it means, the agent and and Figo himself clearly have shared talking points, because they both refer to the stories as “suppositions” or “speculation,” rather than “fabrications,” or “fantasies” or, say, “lies.” Hmm. Furthermore, both Figo and his agent are careful to mention the possibility of moving to MLS at some point, which is something the player himself has been talking about at least since last fall. (Who knows, Nolan, our dream of a 49-year-old Figo playing in the first game at Red Bull Park might yet come true.)
Interestingly, it’s only Agent di Figo who mentions the possibility of staying at Inter for another year, which is something no one has made a sound about until just now. “He has got a contract with Inter. He expects to extend it.” (Um. What? Does Figo know this? Does Moratti? Is it only because they can’t find anyone else?) Figo, for his part, says no such thing, uttering only your typical footballer mantra about getting fit and worrying only about this season, and this club. (For the two other people who care, he’s in Dubai with the rest of the team, but is still training separately, so his return from the Nedved Attack is not imminent.)
