Friday News Roundup as We Get Back in the Saddle
By: Martha | November 23rd, 2007
•Francesco Totti was back in full training for 15 minutes yesterday before getting hurt again. Needless to say, he’s not going to Genoa. (RomaChris tells me Roma have four starters healthy for the match. Oh dear.)
•Could someone please tell Giorgio Chiellini to shut up?
•The new FIFA World Ranking are out, and despite losses by Brazil and Argentina, the top three remain the same as they were last month: Argentina, Brazil and Italy, in that order, though Italy are now only three points behind Brazil for the second spot.
•The hearing about Lazio’s latest corruption scandal was suspended indefinitely earlier this week. That’s a surprise.
•Budding Azzurrini stars Sebastian Giovinco and Alessio Cerci would very much like to go back their real clubs soon, if you please.
•Fabio Capello is expected in London tomorrow to chat with the English FA. Here we go!

I don’t know what to laugh about more: the fact that Chiellini thinks he can hold the entire Juve back line by himself, or that the English FA might be forced to chose Capello simply because everyone else they’ve looked has politely said that they wouldn’t touch the England coaching job if it were food and they were five seconds away from death by starvation.

Breaking News: AS Roma is suffering irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fart pains, dehydration, bubonic plague and a case of the herps…
Ka-Christ! That’s what it has felt like with the injuries. Everything breaking down worse than a Fiat. (Moan, moan, sigh, sigh.)
This is Roma’s luck, though.
If it’s not injuries, it’s finances. If it’s not finances, it’s locker room tiffs. If it’s not locker room tiffs…you get the idea. It almost makes it silly that Totti has bronchitis on top of the ankle injury. We’ll have to hope Mirko can shake off the Empoli meltdown and refind the form he had against Milan, Lazio, Sporting. Genoa will be a tough test and, with our stuttering defense and Mancini’s reported desire to head north, we can be in for trouble. Still I believe we can do it. Forza Roma!Posted from

Angharad, I laugh harder at the former because I’m a terrible person, but they’re both pretty fantastic, I agree.
mctalian, Chris says Mexes is out now, too — I think I’m actually starting at CB for you guys this weekend.

Martha Martha Martha… you spent a whole post bashing Marca for the Real-Roma stories, but then you dare quote the turd-rumor-mill that is Tribal Football on that Chiellini story? :/

“First I want to get my new contract cleared up, then I want to help Juve qualify for Europe.”
Wow, I hadn’t even looked at the link. Talk about getting your priorities fucked up. What a douche.

Marco, I use Tribal Football for real stories if it references newspapers, otherwise it’s sometimes thrown into roundups. But, come on, if they made it up, at least it’s convincing — ever since he threatened to leave if he didn’t start over the summer, the kid’s not exactly been the picure of class.

Oh, will somebody please just punch Chiellini in the face already?

Tribal may not need the most accuracy to promote rumoors, but they don’t make up quotes.
Plus, that’s typical Chiellini. I’d love this kid to be a complete bust.
