Is Someone Touching the Untouchable Daniele De Rossi?
By: Martha | April 30th, 2007
So far this spring, we’ve been poo-pooing the rumored desire of clubs not called Roma to acquire the services of one Daniele De Rossi. Not only does it seem unlikely the club would ever part with such a crucial cog in their footballing machine, but De Rossi also grew up loving Roma, and has said at every opportunity that he plans to see out his career there, ala Francesco Totti.
This weekend, however, cracks seem to have appeared in De Rossi’s resolve: When asked about his future, the Roma boy replied “I would like to stay here, I like it a lot, but in football you never know what could happen … I want to stay at Roma at all costs, but I can’t make any promises. Anything I say could be a double-edged sword and I don’t want to cut a poor figure … I wouldn’t stake my life on my future here, because there are many factors which might affect my decisions, some of them that are not under my control.”
Lots of “I wanna stay, but … ” in there, right? Now, whether that first hint at uncertainty is due to a dodgy translation, word of continuing interest from Barcelona or the booing to which he was reportedly subjected by irritated Roma fans after the derby yesterday is anyone’s guess, but this is the first time in ages — Forever? — we’ve seen some much as a hint he’d even consider playing elsewhere. Don’t look now, but I think I just hear Massimo Moratti pick up his cell phone.

It won’t just be Moratti on the phone if De Rossi decides to go. He will have the busiest mobile in Italy!
