And Today, in Bizarro World, Adriano Can’t Stop Scoring
By: Martha | January 10th, 2007
Look out world, here comes Adriano! The man who spent the first half of the season as unarguably the biggest waste of space in Serie A is now a scoring machine, and is unleashing his newfound form on any mere mortals who dare to stand in his way.
First to feel his wrath were Atalanta, a midtable club who came perilously close to handing Inter their first defeat of the season in the last game before the break. Close, that is, until the great Adriano stepped up and — off an assist from Luis Figo, of course — brought his team back on level terms, from which point they rolled to yet another win. Next up were world powers Bahrain, who had given up two goals to the Big A (both from, yes, Figo) before they’d even settled into the game. Not content just to thrash tiny countries in friendly matches, however, Adriano set his sights on the Coppa Italia, and the unsuspecting Empoli. Poor, poor Empoli — the never knew what hit them. Inter dominated the game, Adriano scored the first goal (from Ibra, who must have pushed Figo out of the way to make the pass) and later had a header touched onto the post by a lucky keeper. Be afraid, Italy. Be very afraid.
Oh, and Torino, his next victims, are already running scared.
