Champions League: Hurrah!

By: Martha | May 2nd, 2007

Mmm ... goals.

Well that was just utterly awesome — classic Milan, dominating a shockingly hapless Man U side. So many fantastic moments, too:

•Gila’s brilliant, cool finish to put the game away.

•Apart from one glaring instance, Milan’s willingness to close down the ball in the attacking end. How many Man U shots were blocked or deflected, 75-80% of them? Awesome defending.

•Seedorf’s flick-on for Kaka’s goal, and then his riding of challenges to score a goal of his own and put Milan on their way to the win. At roughly 65 years old, he’s arguably in the form of his life.

•Gattuso displaying his firm grasp of obscene English while scream at Scholes for an unclear offense.

•The crowd semi-sarcastically, semi-sincerely losing its collective mind every time Dida caught the ball. I wonder if the guy who offered him on eBay was there.

•Gattuso spending the entire first half cleanly taking the ball from Ronaldo and looking as if was about to explode from pride and tension and desire. (For the win, not Ronaldo. At least not as far we I know.)

•Seedorf in tears after the final whistle. Think this means something to him?

•Maldini on the pitch celebrating after the game, albeit in jeans. Will this really be his eighth final, if he can get fit? That’s insanity.

So Milan go to Athens on May 23 with a chance to avenge that nightmarish Istanbul final of a few years ago. Didn’t Maldini score twice in that one, before the unspeakable happened? That’d be a nice way to start the game.

Gattuso used to play for Glasgow Rangers, so I’m guessing that is the source of his cursing knowledge.

I missed Maldini in jeans? Damn.

And I, too, was amazed at Gattuso’s grasp of English. And how much did I love seeing the pretty Ronaldo totally shut down?

I really think they can take Liverpool, especially if they play like they did today.

I think Rino’s wife may be a Brit. If so, makes sense that he speaks it pretty well (and of course would know all teh good words).

Rino’s wife is Scots and I know that Martha has the video of an interview he gave to a Scottish broadcaster when Milan played Celtic earlier in the Champions League. It’s REALLY funny.

But somehow, considering all of the internationals he’s played with, I bet Rino has a salty vocabulary in a number of languages.

Louise, I was just about to mention that awesome video — it’s what came to mind the moment I realized he was yelling in English. I like to think Gazza taught him everything he knows when it comes to swearing.

    Martha, I should have known.

Marca is saying that Maldini announced in his press conference that he’s coming back next year. The article doesn’t seem to say anything of the sort, just that he wants to play in Athens. Thought it would be something you might want to check out.

As a neutral, all I can say is Liverpool are going to have to play out of their skins to contain Kaka and win this one. I can’t see it happening, sorry scousers (and relevant American billionaires, Spaniards, etc).

Is Alex Ferguson always such a handjob after a defeat? Just saw his post-game interview and he could barely admit they lost to a better team. Kept talking about how Milan got all their goals “cheaply”.

SAF is an a-hole. Hate him, hate Man U, happy they are out!! Hope Chelsea smokes them in the FA Cup Final & takes the EPL title from them. Super happy an Italian side is representin’ in the final, although I admit I am less enthused that it is Milan (sorry), but they earned it, so congrats! Liverpool has little chance. Kaka IS the best in the world. What more can you say about Gattuso? He was just damn right FIRED up for this one, a man possessed, and he owned that punk (C-Ron is it?) today. I expected every bit of everything that happened in that game today. The defense was amazing & the attack was good! Loved to see the Man-u players rolling around and crying to the ref for foul calls. Sorry boys, you got schooled today! Good Ol’ Fashioned BEAT!!

Forza Milano =) and thankgodness this is shut up the world about the Ronaldo kaka debate. Ronaldo is oh so not that great against decent defence and strong midfield and not to be modest decent is an understatement. Kaka is almost flawless. I was one of those games thats u can say i saw real entertaining football. I could not help but be amused when Ronaldo got a yellow card and Misses next match flashed across the screen. I have to point out that yes man us home crowd is passionate but milans is beyond descrisption. So ohhh its a rematch and also revenge Milan can do it and hopefully will.
