Italy fall to Egypt 1-0

By: Francesco | June 18th, 2009

Pretty much sums up the game quite nicely.

I think there are way too many problems with this team and it wouldn’t really be good to reiterate my feelings after you’ve all seen my thoughts after every national team game (Never have been in favor of Lippi’s return; we need a fantasista *cough* Cassano *cough*; the stupid 4-3-3 formation; etc.) So we’ll just let this one slide. Italy-Brazil Sunday, should be interesting (or maybe it won’t be, we’ll have to see).

we looked EXTREMELY uninspired until midway through the second half. their gk had some great saves. didn’t like pirlo’s performance, we gave the ball away too easy at times and did not look crisp at all. at least this could be the fantonio wake up call a year before the world cup.

LIPPI IS AN IDIOT. I just cant take it anymore. Ok its unrealistic that I want Cassano back in Rome, but come ON, he is the most creative and most important overall player on the entire team except for maybe Pirlo ! Its ridiculous, that guy of such tallent can be passed on, his international career non-existent just because of a coaches arrogance. Lippi is ruining the color blue.

This team is so old and slow .They won’t go anywhere.I’m afraid they will lose 0-5 to Brazil or even worse.

italy didn’t play badly at all. we controlled the tempo for the most part. the age of our players is apparent though. we lack good defining fowards. rossi should come on as a sub he is explosive, works best against fatigued counterpart. iaquinta is all heart. this team needs youth. i like the way italy moves the ball. that is the reason why i like lippi.Italy is posessing the ball far better under lippi than under trapatoni or donadoni. i wish lippi’s player selection was better. He needs cassano. and giovinco or at least foggia should be here. And as much as i don’t like him, Balotelli should skip the u-21s and be on italy’s bench instead. I don’t think gilardino should be national team. he’s not convincing to me

Even Donadoni corrected his mistakes after the Euro disaster against Netherlands in Euro 2008. Why is Lippi sticking with 4-3-3? Why is he not giving young players a chance? I didn’t watch the match.. so can anyone please explain me why the fuck was Luca Toni brought in for Rossi as early as 58th minute? Toni has had enough chances and he didn’t take one to prove himself. He should be scrapped from the national team altogether.

Italy didn’t play as awful as everyone makes out too. Plus everyone seems to be forgetting Lippi’s coaching history.

For those who say he’s boring and old and can’t learn a thing…..Toni started in the Euros and damn near played every minute. Gattuso has not made it past 55minutes before Lippi hooks him, and Toni has not started in the Confederation’s Cup. He’s slowly switching the team. For all the complaints about his man-crush for Palombo or Pepe, neither have started and Palombo hasn’t seen the field whereas his replacement (who doesn’t play in a similar position, let it be noted) Montolivo has played quite well.

After Egypt- Brazil match, The English Times ( news paper) sports analyist said it is time for the Egyptian football to leave the african field and go towards the international game.
What is better going towards the international game than beating the World’s champion.
despite what happened in the game, as the Brazilians said ” What matters is the resul”

i agree with alessio, italy didn’t play as bad as you all are saying…anyways it really annoys me that everyone keeps forgetting what lippi has done before…and in my opinion he will do it again, just give him time, the real thing-world cup is next year, and i have all the confidence in the world in lippi and the italy team! Just patience people! it annoys me as well that there is no cassano on the team, and that lippi is sticking to 4-3-3 but i believe that the man nows what he is doing.

Look guys, we’ve the right to gloat..Ok ?
The two international matches that Egypt had before the Confederations cup really SUCKED, we had a draw with Zambia, and a loss to Algeria!!
The idea that we played a hell of a match with Brazil, and grabbed a victory on Italy is simply overwhelming..
Your 4-3-3 formation really closed your back lines, your counter attacks were a threat that no one can deny, I don’t know what would have happened without el hadary saves, and the ball in the post in the last minutes..
    And still we won !
We may not make it in 2010 world cup, but by the progress I see in our team, I think you’ll see us in the quarter finals for world cup 2014 :D

Giovinco revels in creative role. Bravo Azzurrini nice game. Balloteli was irritated and sent off, the swedish players provoked him and it worked due to the fact he is a hot blooded type of person. At least from the way I see it the 4-3-3 formation works for Italy U-21 just because we have good players and magnificent play maker like Giovinco. Meanwhile it is not working with the Azzurri simply because we have no creative player and of course Lippi insist not including Cassano with the squad.

Lippi latest comments: “This team still has the desire to win, just as in the World Cup.
“We haven’t a dispute with the journalists. You have a dispute with us. I am sorry this situation has been created because we thought we deserved something more.”
The question is what does Lippi expect from the press? a round of applause for his choice of players or his formation style!!! I really wonder when will he announce the mistake he committed and apologize then promise to reshuffle the squad for the preparation of WC 2010. I am sorry but with this kind of squad we will go no where.

Ironic, now egypt is no. 1, I must say after browsing the internet and reading the press headlines from all over the world about egypt win over Italia, it showed that of course a small team like egypt winning a game against the world cup holders mean alot to them and to other small nations as well. Pothetic really some people think that Italia football team is finished, for all the people who do not know Italy, Italia bounce back in difficult times and show the world why they are 4 world cup champions and the rest is coming in near future.

This Italy team will go nowhere.
Lippi is considered to be a genius in italy by dumb nationalists who will take an ugly win over a deserved win first and foremost. Lippi was in the right place at the right time in 2006. The team won that. Lippi did nothing. He is so arrogant to believe he is a great coach. Italy need a great coach who has vision and “Balls” because the younger generation has lots. The Italia U21 team would easily beat Lippi’s senior team of the Pepes and Tonis and Gattusos. Lippi is so arrogant he refuses to call players because he personally does not like them (Cassano, and in the past Panucci) not because they don’t fit.
He needs to put his HUGE ego on the side and pick the right players. He has some of the most exciting and creative young players in ITALY history to choose from and he picks Pepe. I hope they make a major change before the world cup. Lippi OUT!!!
    Forza Azzuri!
