Lega Pro (Serie C) comes to an end and verdicts are out
By: Francesco | May 17th, 2009
I hate that they renamed Serie C “Lega Pro” and it just hasn’t stuck on me all season. For me, it’s still Serie C. Today was the last matchday for Serie C1 (Lega Pro Prima Divisione) and the verdicts are out.
GIRONE A
Promoted to Serie B: Cesena
Relegated to Serie C2: Legnano
Promotion Play-offs: Reggiana-Pro Patria, Padova-Ravenna
Relegation Play-out: Sambenedettese-Lecco, Venezia-Pro Sesto
GIRONE B
Promoted to Serie B: Gallipoli
Relegated to Serie C2: Potenza
Promotion Play-offs: Foggia-Benevento, Arezzo-Crotone
Relegation Play-out: Juve Stabia-Virtus Lanciano, Pistoiese-Foligno
So Cesena bounces right back to Serie B after being relegated last season and Gallipoli (managed by Giuseppe Giannini) have been promoted to Serie B for the first time in their history.
The promotion play-offs contain teams that were in Serie A in the mid-90’s (Reggiana, Foggia, Padova), teams that were recently in Serie B (Ravenna, Arezzo, Crotone) and teams that surprised everyone this season by making a push for promotion (Benevento, Pro Patria).
It will be interesting to see who comes joins Gallipoli and Cesena in Serie B.
