Ah, So Guidolin Has a Sense of Humor! That Explains So Much.

In what must have been an awesome press conference at Palermo’s Secret!Training Camp in Rome today (The video is here, for those of you who understand Italian. Bastards, the lot of you.), Francesco Guidolin spoke publicly for the first time about his bizarre recall to the Rosanero bench for the last two games of the season.
When asked to describe how it felt to make his return, he said “It’s as if I have been out with the flu for three weeks.” Heh. Yeah, that’s it — he was just taking a little break, leaving his assistant to run things while he was sorting himself out. You know, like Pat Riley, when he was getting his hip replaced — someone else was on the Heat bench for a while, but it was still his team. Except, of course, Palermo didn’t really seem to be Guidolin’s team while he was gone. Man would I love to be a fly on that wall, just to see how they treat him — I hope they at least strive towards some modicum of respect. I mean, everyone has the same goal, right? At least they can agree they need to hold on to that UEFA Cup spot.
In other, typically weird Palermo news, Maurizio Zamparini published an open letter to fans on the team’s website, imploring them to support the players (says the guy who has spend most of the second half ripping his own team) and, above all, not to boo. (Please, don’t boo!) He’s actually ok with criticism, he just wants it to be constructive. You know, like his criticism, when he rips Guidolin in the press — like that is fine, I’m sure. Oh, and he also seems to have forgotten he swore to sell the club and leave football, pledging in the letter to stay around long-term: “I will not let go Palermo Soccer until to the end of my [mysterious but also totally awesome, you can count on that] plan.” Hurrah!
