Amauri Has Learned a Lot From His Agent
By: Martha | December 31st, 2007
Amauri’s agent Mariano Grimaldi is, from all available evidence, an unrepentant sleazebag. In order to keep his client’s name in the press, he has no compunction about telling bold-faced lies about other clubs and their interest, as well as Amauri’s relationship with Palermo. If the Brazilian wasn’t so damn talented, I’m quite sure Zampa would have kicked him to the curb ages ago, just to be rid of Grimaldi.
Now, though, Amauri seems to be getting in on the act — he’s not lying, exactly, but he’s talking a lot about his future, and coyly dropping names like nobody’s business. Yesterday, for example, he told La Gazzetta that he expects to leave Palermo this summer, and wants to play with Ale Del Piero, David Trezeguet AND Kaka. In other words, he’ll go anywhere they’re willing to pay him, and wants to make sure he doesn’t leave out any of his biggest rumored suitors. Needless to say, he didn’t express a preference between Milan and Juve, instead saying “I would be honored to play for both teams, so we will have to see who gets me first … “. Very cute. I think I liked him more when he let Grimaldi engage in this sort of transparent market stirring.
And Amauri’s doing just the same thing with regard to national team call-ups — in addition to saying he’s been flattered by the kind words from both Donadoni and Dunga, he said “Something could happen in 2008, either Brazil or Italy could call me.” You know, just so everyone knows he’s still out there. I wonder if national teams offer incentives: Hookers? News cars? Large, one-time payments?
Zampa, though he admits having been contacted by Juve, thinks the imminent departure talk is nonsense, and would very much like the media to shut the hell up. (He may be crazy, but at least he’s reliable.)
