Another Day, Another Award for Canna
By: Martha | January 30th, 2007
The Italian football awards (If you can believe it, they’re called “Oscars,” a name all those who consider Italy a country of divers doubtless find hilariously appropriate.) were handed out last night and, has become di rigeur for such ceremonies, several of them ended up in the hands of Fabio Cannavaro.
When all was said and done, Canna was named Player of the Year, Best Italian Player and best defender, and I’m sure he was typically gracious as he pushed away his wheelbarrow full of trophies. (Are they balls? Boots? Cards? I can’t find any damn pictures of the event, which likely means there were no hot women handing out awards.) Canna’s Azzurri teammate Gianluigi Buffon, meanwhile, was name best goalkeeper and, far more troublingly, “Most Loved Player.” What that means I’m not entirely sure, but no matter who voted there’s really no excuse for it. I mean, who would choose Buffon over Canna? Maldini? Hell, who would choose him over me? I ask you. The guy is a great player and all, but beloved?! Troubling, I tell you. It’s troubling.
The full list of winners is after the jump.

“Most Loved Player.” hmmm…
perhaps gigi received more man-hugs than canna?
we can show them this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrQmhFyp1RI&eurl= then maybe they’d give canna the awardPosted from

Wow, shelah — I hadn’t see that before. Who knew it would ever be hard to watch Canna do anything? He may be a better defender than Oddo, but Oddo can rest assured he’s a far, far, FAR better dancer. Which, you know, is something.

I’m guessing this is what the award looks like…

i am starting to wonder how the azzurri train. i mean, does their daily regimen include dancing to italo-disco hits and/or scantily-clad ladies dressed as fowl? since canna’s been receiving awards left and right, i won’t be surprised if they gave him a plaque or trophy or medal for TRYING to dance…with a winning smile, of course.

Ashley, I’m going to go way out a limb here and say your guess is a good one. (: Thanks.

Here’s Canna and his little golden men.
I have a feeling Canna’s status as most loved was hurt by that little move to Spain. The love for Gigi probably increased because he stayed at Juve.

No matter what Cannavaro does/did after the world cup, I think he will always be loved in Italy, and by others elsewhere too.
