Balzaretti Inches from the Viola
By: Martha | June 12th, 2007
Though nothing is official quite yet, it’s understood that Juve defender Federico Balzaretti will join Fiorentina today. (Or, in the words of Google Translate: “Negotiation sluice with the Juventus.” Sluice! Does anyone use that word? Ever? Who programs that translating machine, Charles Dickens?)
A former U21 international, Balzaretti’s been a regular at Juve for the last two years (After joining on a free from the bankrupt Torino, the turncoat.) but was told when the season ended that he was no longer needed at the club. Well! How’s that for gratitude? Juve apparently have big plans to overhaul their defense this summer which works out well for the Viola; they’ve reportedly agreed a three-year deal with the 25-year-old.
Fiorentina had the best defensive record in Serie A this season and, despite very disconcerting rumors about the impending departure of Tomas Ujfalusi (Was Jorgensen really such a good emergency right back that they feel OK letting the Czech go?), recent activity — including this move, the resigning of Dario Dainelli and the acquisition of young Anthony Vanden Borre — indicates they’ve got every intention of reproducing that success in 2007-2008.

Taken from a local tuscan dictionary that I picked up, and was made in 1734:
Sluice: (adj.) A word to describe actions and effectively say, “I ain’t bullshittin on this dawg.”
Honest. Its untranslatable because its a northern dialect, mixed with latin and french. Sluice. See, I used it.
