David Villa, Definitely Maybe a Juve Target
By: Martha | April 27th, 2007
The last we heard about David Villa in these parts, he was on one of the early, massive lists of possible Inter transfer targets, along with pretty much everyone else in Europe. Now his name has resurfaced, only this time it’s Juve who allegedly have him in their sights.
According to reports in the Spanish press, Villa is the Turin club’s primary summer target, particularly if (read: when) they lose David Trezeguet. If they were to get Villa, he’d likely be pretty much their only signing, since the buy-out clause in his long-term contract will supposedly cost any club €126 million — that doesn’t exactly leave a lot of change lying around to buy up any spare parts. Given that no one is going to pay that much, though, one would imagine Valencia would be willing to negotiate, assuming they’re willing to let him go under any circumstances.
Of course, even if Villa was interested in leaving Valencia (he insists he’s not), it’s not as if Juve would be in alone for him: Also reportedly preparing a massive offer as part of his effort to bring every talented and pretty football on earth into his London lair is none other than Roman Abramovich. Chelsea are supposedly willing to pay €66 million for the player, which would be completely insane, obviously, and would surely force Valencia to consider a deal. (Not to mention likely pricing Juve totally out of the discussion.)
