Deja Vu All Over Again, Or: Riganò Sold to Two Clubs at Once

By: Martha | August 15th, 2007

Riganooooooo!Yes, that’s right: Another player has apparently been sold to two different teams — and this time there’s no way anyone can blame Massimo Moratti for the problems. The player in question is Christian Riganò, a striker whom Spanish side Levante today revealed would be joining them from Messina, and was prepared to sign a two-year deal. This news, however, came as a bit of a shock to Livorno, who thought they had reached an agreement to buy Riganò, and were very much expecting him to replace the firepower they lost with the sale of Cristiano Lucarelli.

So … here we go again. Livorno are threatening to sue both Messina and Levante, claiming they had a written agreement with the Italian club (”We have all the documents and they are signed.”), and that their inability to come to terms with the player (thus far) should not have nullified the contract between the clubs.

Jesus, what a mess. With the disagreement affecting teams in two different countries, this could get complicated, if no one’s willing to give in. If there really is something signed between Messina and Livorno, it’s hard to imagine it could just be summarily thrown out without the consent of both parties. By the same token, though, if Levante also have something written, they would have a reasonable claim on the player, too. Right? Any lawyers out there want to help us out?

Paging Dr. Collina, stat.

with all due respect, juan, shut up.

Does Collina have any pull here? If he doesn’t I sure wish he could get involved. Tell me this happens in other leagues, right? I mean if it doesn’t just say it does.
