Dhorasooooooooooooo!

VDQ*Tap tap* Is this thing on?

You’ll excuse me for clapping with glee at this little bit of news — among a pile of signings in the last 48 hours for Livorno was former French international (very, very former) French international Vikash Dhorasoo. He was brought in on what one assumes was a free, what with him having no job and all.

If you somehow missed the events of the past year or so, here’s a quick summary: Dhorasoo was on the French squad in Germany last summer, but hardly played at all. Afterwards, he made a well-reviewed documentary about the experience (That’s one way to stick it to the haters.) which resulted in the Great and Strange Raymond Domenech suggesting that Dhorasoo “find another career.†That, in turn, prompted the midfielder to stick his tongue out at Domencech, and very maturely tell him he didn’t want to play for his stupid team anyway. Which is why he’s a former international.

Well, plus last fall he was dumped by PSV PSG, becoming the first player sacked by a Ligue 1 club in over 30 years. That didn’t really help his France career, either. I guess that’s what happens when you refuse to train, accuse your club of lying, and steal official documents, huh?

Anyway, the Livorno contract is not only a return to gainful employment for Dhorasoo, but also a return to Italy: He made 12 boring, spectacularly hairy appearances for Milan during the 2004-2005 season before his career went in the toilet, and Livorno are surely hoping he’s at least as average for them in the coming season.

While at Milan, I didn’t think Dhorasoo was boring at all; his passing and elegance reminded me of Veron, though maybe a hairier and frenchier version of the Wildman From La Plata.

For the people: that link was kinda messy, maybe it’ll work better this time http://france.worldcupblog.org/player-news/wheres-dhorasoo-now.html

I wanna check out Viky’s movie, but my list is so backed-up it may be a while. I’m still haven’t seen the Zizou movie…

And no, I’m not referring to that masterpiece “Life Aquatic” where I smiled every time someone mentioned TEAM ZIZOU and I learned that Bowie hits sung in Portuguese is almost better than the real thing.

Crap Steven, thanks — will go fix that.

And Mike, I probably saw the wrong games, but I’m actually being kind in describing him as boring — what I saw was Dismal with a capital “Dis.”

(Also: I LOOOOOOOOOOVED Life Aquatic, in part, probably, because of The Zizou thing. And, in my other life, I wrote a review of the Zizou movie. One of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen — I get chills just thinking about it.)

Domenech’s kind of a crazy bastard, so I was totally rooting for Dhorasoo.
Hopefully he’ll somehow wind up as Serie A player of the year.. what a fairy tale ending.

Great review of the Zidane movie, Martha. I didn’t realize Mogwai did the music, so now I totally have to see it.

Thanks Ben — the movie really is magnificent, if you’re a football fan. And the soundtrack is truly awesome, and works so seamlessly with the film that I’ve not bought the CD for fear it’ll be disappointing on its own …

You picked the only photo I’ve ever seen that makes Dhorasoo look sexy. (Why is this what I care about when I come to your blog? Everywhere else in the universe I read for enlightenment.)

This news amazes me, actually. I thought our Vikash was done as a footballer. I guess you can never underestimate the power of no transfer fee, eh?

He will fail. At least I really, really want him to.

I’m kind of glad Vikash will still be around. Football is so boring without his antics. Maybe he’ll make a movie on Calcio.

Inara, if it includes lots of skivvies shots, I’m so there.

I mean…wait…it’s all about the ARTICLES!

Man, that’s a lot of hate, Sam. Why the bitterness?

And I don’t know about sexy, Laurie, but at least he looks less rodent-ine than usual. Which is certainly something.

That’s the first picture I’ve seen of him where he doesn’t look like a musk ox.

How did that write down chris g? This changeover is really throwing my world upside down.

You can stop with the blatant sycophancy and flattery to keep the readers coming, Martha. It was just lil ole me. :)

(But you can still call me ’sir’)
