Everyone Wants Nasri — Especially Inter

By: Martha | March 30th, 2007

Samir NasriThose of you who don’t follow France may not have heard, but the latest Next Zidane made his full international debut this week and turned in what was reportedly a very impressive performance. The youngster, a 19-year-old midfielder named Samir Nasri, currently plays for Olympique Marseille and was being drooled on by many major clubs even before Wednesday’s friendly win over Austria, but now things have spiraled completely out of control.

The lad is currently signed through 2009, and it’s expected that Marseille will place a lofty price on his head, given the recent buzz about him — supposedly somewhere in the area of €25 million. Of course, this isn’t stopping anyone from circling poor, vulnerable Nasri and, at the top of list of interested parties (at least according to the Italian papers) is Inter Milan, who have reportedly already met with Nasri’s father, his acting agent. In addition to Inter, Udinese, Fiorentina and Juventus are all said to be eying Nasri, and are surely eager to offer a mint or two for his services (though Udine would struggle to match the offers of the others).

While Nasri is yet to talk to Marseilles about an extension, the scuttlebutt is that he’s not willing to leave unless he’s assured first-team action, which is unlikely to happen at Inter. That said, it’s easy to say “never” when you’re not looking astronomical wages square in the face — we’ll see how strong his resolve is, come summer.

You got that right. Now prepare to roll your eyes: I think he is the ACTUAL next Zidane. Gourcuff puts forth quite an argument, but Nasri is from Marseille, of Algerian descent, like Zizou. So don’t even try it.

I think he would make for an awesome pick up for Inter. Realistically though if he truly is looking for a first team spot he better not get his hopes up about moving to a big team any time soon.
