Flachi’s Coke Use Apparently Not That Bad

By: Martha | June 4th, 2007

SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIENDAfter having two separate urine samples test positive for cocaine, Sampdoria’s Francesco Flachi spent several months sitting around, waiting for the football league to hand down his punishment. They finally spoke last week, giving the 32-year-old a 16-month ban that will most likely end his career. Though the striker (who, you may recall, miss the first two months of the season on a suspension for match-fixing) will appeal the ruling, Sampdoria will probably release him and, if he ever gets another contract, it’ll likely be of the flier variety ala Christian Vieri’s deal with Atalanta this year, whereby he was paid the league minimum but with a substantial bonus for each goal scored.

Whether he ends up playing again or not, Flachi’s got to be feeling pretty sorry for himself — 16 months is an awfully long time to be out of the game, even if it is his own damn fault. He just better not go complaining to Messina keeper Nicholas Caglioni, who tested positive shortly after Flachi did, and has also been awaiting his punishment. Apparently “the fact that he was considered directly responsible for taking a banned substance” make Caglioni’s offense worse that Flachi’s, and he’s been hit with a full two-year suspension. Damn.

While Caglioni is younger than Flachi and could conceivably come back after the ban runs its course (though his status as the Messina number one is pretty much sunk), this does beg the question: How, exactly, did Flachi get coke in his system if he wasn’t “directly responsible for taking” it? Did someone pour it in his nose while he was unconscious? Or might it be that pesky airborne cocaine that’s blowing over Italy? Either way, I want details — suddenly this story is much, more more interesting.

He claims that a friend gave him a “laced cigarette”; one wonders if he poor taste in friends, or maybe just poor taste buds. And please no jokes about his “friend” being a certain Romanian superstar… Adrian made a statement when this story first broke out, giving Franco his support. Whatever happened to that superstar playboy that wiped his ass with a $1M phone? If Adrian can become the gentleman he is today, maybe there’s hope for Cassano.

Hey, you’ll never see me slagging Mutu off — I’ve always been a fan of his ability, and think he’s finally grown up. You could actually see him maturing as the season went along this year; he’s finally an adult, and a leader on the pitch. (Who knew we’d ever say that about the little punk?)

(What’s so insane about that “friend” thing is that the football league evidently BOUGHT it. Please.)

Nice. Thanks for the heads up, Tony; I’ll keep my eyes open and not take any chances. Now, hypothetically speaking, who would be the best contact for moving about 5 kilos? Hypothetically. I’ve heard Adriano likes to party…

Yea, I’ve heard about Adriano too.

To answer your question though, hypothetically speaking, of course, best way to start that up, is to grease the wheels of customs. At the smaller airports or shipyards. That’d be my guess.
