Friday News Round-Up: No One is Going Anywhere
By: Martha | April 6th, 2007
•According to the PR wizards at Milan, their beloved Alberto Gilardino is not going anywhere the summer. Despite the fact that he rarely hits the broadside of a barn these days, he’s still the team’s leading scorer and, even though Herr Berlusconi left him off his list of “untransferable” players yesterday (oops), the club fully intend to keep him forever and ever.
•Meanwhile down south, Palermo are making similar noises about Andrea Barzagli. Though widespread reports in Italy this week suggested that Juve are closing in on the Azzurri defender, the club insist this is not the case. According to Palermo resident nutjob owner Maurizio Zamparini, he hasn’t talked to anyone at Juve about the player since last summer. Hmm, really? Even if that’s true, what do you think the odds Barzagli will still be in pink next year? The amount his sale could bring for Palermo makes them pretty low, I think.
•If you ask David Trezeguet — AKA the one man even more certain to move this summer than Luca Toni — he wants to pay for Juve next year, darn it, despite the lack of Champions League football. Mm hmm. Tell me another one, David.
•Eugenio Corini is STILL hurt. For the love of God! Didn’t he just pull a leg muscle? How long can that take to heal?!
•Not that anyone will care (since the stadium will be empty and all), but Franceso Totti will miss Roma’s match against Catania this weekend. Yes, his back hurts a little, but the main issue is the game in Manchester next week — he’ll be staying away from all sharp objects and angry defenders until that match is done and dusted.
•On its own, the fact that Maxwell will miss Inter’s match against Reggina tomorrow isn’t particularly interesting. However, the reason he’s missing it — at least according to La Gazzetta dello Sport + Google translate — is worth mentioning: He’s suffering, friends, from “resentment to the skillful calf.” Damn that smug calf! (Who knew body parts had rivalries?)

Trezegoal is staying?! No way. The translation on that site were ridiculous.
Its smart for Totti to miss his next game. I would do the same.

Yay, Totti and Nesta both get a break! I’m excited. For Roma, mind you, since I refuse to have my heart popped like a loud popping thing again as far as Milan is concerned.
As for Gila and his not being included on a list of glory, I have to applaud the PR guys for coming up with something so slick. I mean, we all know that the slip couldn’t have occurred because he, like, isn’t performing or anything.
