Is God Preparing a Cosmic Joke for Kaka?

In an interview* with La Gazetta dello Sport today, Milan’s Ricky Kaka joined the chorus of voices calling for the summer capture of the newly fat Ronaldinho. Like everyone else, he was very careful to preface his desire with the words “If Barca decide to sell him, then … ,” but it’s clear he’s quite reasonably salivating at the thought of playing with Ronaldo AND Ronaldinho in Serie A. Why, it’s a young Brazilian’s wet dream! (Assuming the young Brazilian in question dreams about footballers with biggish guts, long hair and buck teeth.) And perhaps it’s more than a dream — supposedly Ronaldinho’s brother/agent will be in Milan this week to meet with club officials and talk about obscene amounts of money.
However, there may be a little flaw in that particular fantasy: Other Italian press outlets are reporting that, in order to land Ronaldinho, Milan may just have to part with … Kaka. Oh ho ho the irony! Imagine reading the crawl along the bottom of Italy’s version of ESPN announcing the breaking news of the deal: “Ronaldinho to join Milan! Hoorah, my dreams have come … in a partial swap for Ricky Kaka?! Nooooooooo! Lord, why hast thou forsaken me?” Yes, it’s ok to laugh at the thought. But only a little.
*For those of you who can read Italian, there’s a lot of interesting stuff in the interview — among other things, Kaka talks about his faith, and compares his lifestyle to that of Adriano the Party Monster. Google Translate doesn’t offer enough precision for me to even begin writing about either of those things, but if you can understand Italian I bet it’s a good read.
