Juve Win With a Handball — Where Have We Heard That One Before?
By: Martha | December 20th, 2006
Karma, meet Pavel. Pavel, meet Karma. The wise among you may have blocked out Pavel Nedved’s endless whining by now, but the man has been ranting and raving (I imagine that his hair flies wildly during the rants) about how Juve are now the image of purity, and the rest of the evil, corrupt football establishment is out to get them. Hence his lengthy suspension, among other things — he’s saint, just so you know, and would never foul anyone. Or dive. Never that.
On the heels of all that self-righteous nonsense, it’s particularly pleasing that Juve beat fellow Serie B front-runners Bologna 1-0 last night on a goal that not only didn’t cross the line, but also stemmed from an apparent handball by Marcelo Zalayeta. Oh, and a very strong penalty claim by Bologna was denied by the referee. You’ll not be surprised to hear that Juve chose this moment to stop whining about how everything is rigged against them, with suddenly sanguine coach Didier Deschamps playing the Arsène Wenger “What happened? Oh, I didn’t see that.” card is his post-match remarks: “It’s very difficult to have a clear view of anything in Italian football.” God, how can you not love the hypocrisy? It’s so fantastic and transparent and awesome!
(Oddly, there’s no comment yet from poor, put-upon Pavel.)
