Kaka in Spain Shock! (And the Spanish Press Didn’t Even Make it Up.)

By: Martha | October 5th, 2007

I can haz typing skillzJeez Louise. For once, things were quiet on the Kaka to Madrid! front. The Spanish papers have stopped making up stories about Ricky Kaka and his fervent desire to join Real Madrid, and the last major article about him there was an interview in Marca with Silvio Berlusconi, who agreed to talk entirely because he wanted to emphasize the Brazilian’s desperate loyalty to Milan. Ahhh, the lovely sounds of silence. You’d think Kaka would be enjoying the quiet, right? Wrong.

Yesterday, during an online chat for elpais.com, the “symbol of Milan” fell into a trap when he was asked where he’d like to pay if he left Italy, making the mistake of answering honestly and naming La Liga, specifically Real or Barcelona, as his preferred destination. DOH! Though Kaka also discussed delightful things like the Golden Ball, Lionel Messi, and his boy Jesus, the Italian press have understandably latched onto the Spain thing with all the eagerness of a (slightly weary) pack of terriers, so I’m sure we’ll being seeing a day full of denials and clarifications coming from the San Siro.

Well, at least Milan don’t have anything else to worry about. Oh, wait.

Edit: Kaka has also been voted King of the World the FIFPro Player of the Year by a jury of his peers. (Just a place-holder til he gets the Golden Ball, of course.)

  • Update: Kaká just released a press interview to Gazzetta, in which he admitted that the El País chatroom interview was real (you'd think that if they printed the story it *must* have been real, but the Totti-Don Balón story taught us otherwise).

I translated the article on mCalcio.com here.

  • Here's the interview:

  • Marco there's a link in the body of the post to the El Pais summary of the story, and they also have a short video of the whole thing, but I didn't see a full transcript anywhere on their site.

  • I read this Kaká-loving-Real story on the Gazzetta also (I tried finding the link with no success).

If there's anything that's certain with Milan's current situation, it's that their poor match-form is creating quite a stir with their best-paid players. A few more matches like these and Berlusconi will have something really serious to worry about, and not just about Serie A rankings...

What a good timing ! Does Milan recent bad performances have something to do with this ?

  • Real or Barca, huh?

Nah, there's obviously nothing in it, but that amused me.

  • Fetyani

    doesn't worry me at all.

it's just the media emphasizing on each word he says. plus he did say last week, i wont leave Milan, they'll have to send me away.
