Kakha Kaladze, Moneyman

By: Martha | December 13th, 2007

Give me your money.Rino Gattuso breeds shellfish, Bobo Vieri and Paolo Maldini have a clothing line, Dejan Stankovic owns restaurants (I can’t find the websites, but just trust me on this one).

Football doesn’t last forever, so it’s only natural that players with two brain cells to rub together try to make sure they have something to keep them afloat when their knees give out and the bank account shrinks a bit. Milan’s Kakha Kaladze, however, is taking a slightly different approach: He’s trying to open a bank. This ain’t no crazy rumor, either — Kaladze has applied for a banking license in Georgia (the country, not the state), and will know within a month whether or not the Central Bank will let him go ahead with his plans.

I have no idea how one goes about opening your own bank, in Georgia or elsewhere, but it certainly can’t hurt Kaladze’s political ambitions to get a foot in the business world. Having a lot of money will help, too — I don’t know if banking actually makes people rich anymore, but it sure worked for the Medici family back in the day, and that whole political angle worked out awfully well for them, too. (Can you imagine a Pope Kaladze? They’d at least bring a bit of brooding darkness to the pointy hat.)

Nice, Marco! If only we didn’t have George to bring us down with actual facts …

(Isn’t it great, Abby? I love that his dad is apparently very hands-on with the running of it right now — clearly all the Gattusos are more than a little awesome.)
