Mancini, the Latest: Going Nowhere? But That’s So Boring! And Logical.
By: Martha | February 26th, 2007
I know the endless array of stories about Roberto Mancini’s future gets tiresome after a while, but it’s also sort of fun to read about all the possible iterations of the Inter managerial gig. Plus, they give me an excuse to talk about Jose Mourinho, which is never a bad thing.
After months of rumors that Mancini would leave Inter (rumors he did nothing to discourage) and be replaced by Mourinho, this weekend it was reported that he might in fact be replaced by ex-Lazio and England gaffer, Sven Goran Eriksson, the man who gave Mancio his first managerial experience. Now, though, according to ControCampo — a weekly Italian newspaper I’ve never heard of — Mancini and Inter quietly went back to the negotiating table last week, and have in fact reached an agreement on a new three-year deal. The paper reports that the agreement is being kept quiet for the moment (not very effectively, obviously), but will be made public in the next week or two, prior to Inter’s Champions League match against Valencia.
Sigh. I suppose, if true, this is good for Inter. But what about the rest of us? Surely Serie A would be a better (Read: Even more insane) place with Mourinho in the mix. Hey, Carlo Ancelotti! How much longer are you planning to stick around?
