Meanwhile, In Transfers That Didn’t Happen

Deep breath (fingers crossed this is the last transfer post for a long, long time):

•Despite the fact that Ronaldo is fully, officially a Milan player, not all of the deal seems to have gone through: Ricardo Oliveira is apparently no longer going to Real Madrid and will instead end his season sitting on his ass in Milan. The problem reportedly stemmed from a FIFA rule limiting the number of teams for which a player can turn out in a given season (yes, this is the same rule that doesn’t apply to anyone Liverpool wants), but seems to have had no effect at all on the Ronaldo part of the deal. One assumes Milan will have to fork over some more cash as a result, but I haven’t been able to find confirmation of that anywhere.

•A side-effect of the Oliveira non-loan, however, is that, since they no longer need a new striker, Milan’s interest in Palermo’s Andrea Caracciolo has waned. Of course, even if they still wanted the little bastard, there’s some question as to if a deal could be worked out between the clubs in such a short time. Which is OK. Personally, I like the idea of Caracciolo spending a few weeks on the Palermo bench, dreaming about what might have been.

•Just in case you were wondering, Real, Palermo don’t want Antonio Cassano. So quit asking! Jeez.
