More Strikers On the Move (Or Not)
By: Martha | June 29th, 2007
If reports in the Italian press are to be believed (and at least one of them has already been denied), a couple of desirable strikers will soon have new homes, one of them in a move that will make yours truly very sad indeed.
The sad one is the seemingly inevitable sale of the awesomely powerful Reginaldo who, according to his agent, will shortly be leaving Fiorentina for Parma. This story first surfaced nearly two weeks ago and, despite rumored interested from other clubs (including Torino — who were briefly thought to have the inside track — and Atalanta), it appears the move is actually going to happen. Sniff.
As we’ve discussed here in the comments, the move makes sense for Reginaldo: He’s young (only 23) and being first choice anywhere looms larger for him right now than establishing himself in a quality side through patience and periodic starts, even when some of those starts would be in Europe. And Parma, who apparently are not going to win their battle to keep Giuseppi Rossi, need a striker, and can pretty much guarantee the Brazilian the regular spot he so desperately wants. I just hope this move doesn’t result in Reginaldo falling off the map entirely; ideally, moving to a smaller club will really allow him to shine (ala Suazo at Cagliari), even if its as part of a desperate battle against relegation.
Elsewhere, La Gazzetta is reporting that Juve’s much discussed Fabrizio Miccoli will be leaving Benfica not for Turin but for Palermo, for the rumored price of about €5 million. Shortly after this story appeared, though, Miccoli’s agent, while he confirmed that negotiations between the two clubs were underway, denied that any agreement had been reached. And, oddly, I can’t find anything about it at all in the reliably OCD Portuguese sports newspapers. So, regarding Miccoli, your guess is as good as mine.

It was inevitable. He was going to get zero PT with Pazzini, Mutu, Bojinov and Lupoli on the depth chart. Good move for him.

Glad to be of assistance, Giuseppe! For what it’s worth, a Miccoli denial just surfaced in the Portuguese press, but he’s not seemed very sure what’s going on with his status from the very beginning, so god only knows what that means.

Palermo signed Serbian U21 midfielder Bosko Jankovic today. He was very impressive during the U21 tournament. Flashy midfielder with great technical ability.

I’m sad to see Reginaldo go. I just hope Fiorentina beats Roma to Semioli; otherwise they are going to wind up with egg on their face and less cover on the wing.
But, I’ll go ahead and put my boy Reginaldo down for 15 goals next season.

I think Roma and the majority of Roma fans hope Fiorentina wins out on Semioli. I do.
