Now It’s Inter’s Turn to Panic

They’re guarding him, not arresting. I think.Remember when Napoli were shut out in the Birra Moretti Trophy, and promises of signing three new players were immediately issued by the club brass to placate angry supporters? Well, it looks like the loss to Roma in the Super Cup on Sunday is having a similar effect on at least one person at Inter.

Though I can’t find the interviews in question, it’s being widely reported that, after his team’s disappointing performance against Roma, Roberto Mancini demanded that Massimo Moratti splash some proverbial cash on up to four additional players. Hmm. Really? This sort of extreme reaction seems very unlike the generally even-keeled Mancini, but Moratti is responding grumpily in the press, which either means something really did happen, or that he’s just been reading the same articles we are, and has decided to hit back with a little self-important bluster rather than going to the source and finding out what was actually said.

As far as who these fantasy players might be, there are some pretty fun rumors floating around. In addition to the Deco stories, which are back in force, Emerson’s name is being mentioned (again), as are those of Palermo’s Azzurri defender Cristian Zaccardo and Empoli youngster Andrea Raggi.
