Palermo Suddenly Busy in the Market
By: Martha | July 2nd, 2007
Just a few days after making what looks a whole lot like an awesome deal for a young midfielder, Palermo have apparently dived right back into the market, this time looking to make a change in attack.
Though nothing is official yet (I need to create a keyboard shortcut to save me from having to type that 20 million times over the next two months), the Portuguese press is reporting the previously rumored Miccoli-to-Palermo deal is nearly done. Technically, I suppose, he’ll be returning to Juve from his two year loan at Benfica, and then being sold on to Palermo — for about €5 million — but for practical purposes he’ll be going from Benfica to Palermo. And, for the trivia-lovers among you, Benfica today revealed its kits for 2007-2008; leaving behind the club’s traditional red and white, the new change “camisola” is a glorious, bright pink. Much like, yes, Palermo’s kit. Is that ironic? Close? (I’m talking myself here, aren’t I?)
In order to create room for Miccoli and also generate the cash need to buy him, Palermo are reportedly closer than ever to selling the equally small but way more annoying (and more threatened with legal action and suspension) David Di Michele to Parma. All the reporting on this possible deal is oddly casual and nearly detail-free, but everyone seems quite sure it’s going to happen, with personal terms all that remains to be resolved. After all, the agreement betweens clubs was reached “in a maneuver with the matrix of the president … Maurizio Zamparini,” so I think it’s best if we just don’t question any of it.
