Palermo Prez Turns Out to be Clairvoyant. Who Knew?
By: Martha | February 28th, 2007
In an unusual step, Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini started bitching about the referee assigned to his team’s match with Milan today — a man by the name of Matteo Trefoloni, who happens to also officiate World Cup and Champions League matches — even before the game kicked off. Said the always-quotable Zamparini, “Trefoloni is not in a great shape. For such an important game I would have preferred Paparesta or Rizzoli.” As if that was enough, there was this kicker: “I also noted that Trefoloni brings good luck to Milan.” And, what do you know, he’s right — heading into today’s match, Milan had never lost with Trefoloni in the middle of the pitch, dropping points only in the four of the 13 games that were draws.
Needless to say, The Man was angry — probably because Zamparini was telling the truth, though The Man claimed it was simply because such bellyaching is inappropriate, now that everything has been fixed in Serie A and all. At the time, the referee designator grimly announced that he would tell on Zamparini to the president of the football league. However, now that Zamparini’s words have been borne out by Trefoloni’s decision to award a terrible penalty to Milan (lucky for him, it was saved), one wonders whether this will just be swept under the rug. After all, reporting Zamparini’s statements would only draw attention to just how right they were, right? And if there’s one thing Serie A doesn’t like, it’s the spotlight on things that smell of corruption.
“Who, us? Oh no, that’s all in the past. Nothing to see here. Move along. Thank you.”

goddamn keyboards.
anyways.
the most wonderful thing is happening over at stadionews.it, in the news section.
up until their wee hours of the morning, our favorite big-mouth and our favorite vice-president were dishing it out.
major show down between galliani, zampa and rino foshi [the sports director for palermo].
zampa also had his piece to stay about…complaining about the refs. something about liberty and a free country and just stating FACTS.oh, how woe-some would this world be without zamparini?
