The Latest on Juve’s Shopping List

By: Martha | May 24th, 2007

Senor PizarroDo you think there will be new Juve rumors every single day once the transfer window opens? Because, at this rate, they’re going to be through the big names by the end of May and will be associated with mid-level MLS players come mid-July. Anyway, the names of the day all belong to players from the Americas: Claudio Pizarro, Rafael Marquez and Gabby Heinze (again).

The info on the Pizarro pursuit seems the most legit, if only because the rumors contain a lot of details. (Plus, he’s got an Italian passport, which makes him desirable for any Serie A club.) It’s been assumed in the UK for a while that the Bayern Munich striker would be headed to Rangers this summer when his contact expires: His agent had a productive meeting with Coach Walter Smith recently, and the club were prepared to offer a club-record £40,000 per week for his goal scoring powers. Now, though, Juve have popped up to perform the football version of a cock-block, offering the Peruvian £60,000 a week and laughing in Rangers’ collective face as they did it. Allegedly. If this actually is happen, Juve will have to wait and see: Either Pizzaro will follow the money, or he’ll pull a Frings and and (Shockingly!) go where he actually wants to be regardless of the pay.

For their parts, Marquez and Heinze are apparently on Juve’s list of defensive targets, and it’s thought that each could be had for a “reasonable” price between €7 million and €10 million. In addition to his relative youth (he’s 28), Barcelona’s Marquez, like Pizarro, carries an EU passport and comes from an EU-based club, so he could arrive without taking either of those precious non-EU transfer slots. Heinze, meanwhile, has been a Dider Deschamps favorite since they were together in Ligue 1 (Deschamps at Monaco, the Argentine at Paris Saint Germain), and Man U are reportedly seeing him as disposable, if the price is right.

By tomorrow, of course, all of this will have changed. Isn’t summer fun?!

Whoa, seriously?! That would be fantastic! Given the insane crowd support TFC get for MLS games, I can’t even imagine what the place would be like with Juve as the visitors. I’ll see if I can find out anything.

That would be crazy, even I would have to go to that. TFC has no business playing a team like Juventus, but Benfica were here last night and Aston Villa are here in July so it is very possible. BMO field would be sold out in like 3 milliseconds. I have been to 3 FC games so far this year and its crazy fun in there, I can only imagine if a team like Juve was here (any top Italian club for that matter). Naturally if it happens I would be praying that TFC beats them….. ha, yeah right! By the way when does the transfer season begin?
