The Return of Pouting Pavel
By: Martha | July 10th, 2007
I confess to spending much of last season on a sort of inform Pavel Nedved watch, waiting for his inevitable explosions of righteous indignation over any number of offenses to which the world had the audacity to subject him. (Needless to say, he never disappointed.) Happily, the pouting and whining have continued into the off-season, though now it’s Juve rather than The System of Football and their Audacious Officials who are bearing the brunt of his wrath.
The golden-locked Czech has been threatening retirement for several months, first because he was angry with The Man and figured, somehow, that leaving would be an appropriate punishment, and then because Juve aren’t groveling sufficiently in negotiations. This summer has been full of speculation about Nedved’s future, assuming that he’d decide to stay (or not) based on if he thinks he has the ability — mentally and physically — to contribute for another season. Instead, though, it appears this is all going to come down to whether or not Juve bow and scrape in the great Nedved’s presence. And, at the moment? Things aren’t looking so good: Nedved and his agent are pissed off about Juve’s current offer, and say that if the club don’t pony up for the right of having his hair around the place, he’ll retire. That’ll show those ungracious bastards!
