The Robot in Turin? Dare We Dream?

By: Martha | February 23rd, 2007

Work it, Crouchy.Back at the start of the year, I shared with you the odd news that Juve were allegedly talking to Liverpool about Peter Crouch. Not because, like many of the rest of us, they wanted him to stop doing that ridiculous dance, but rather because they had dreams of him dancing in black and white. At the time, the story seemed absurd, even when we were told he would be acquired as part of a swap deal for David Trezeguet, AKA the (other) Frenchman everyone wants. First, I still don’t get why everyone wants Trezeguet. Second, could Crouch survive in Serie A? I’m not convinced. Third, even if he could, why him? Why would Juve want him? So, on the back of those any myriad other questions, we all just threw the story on the pile of fictional ______-to-Turin rumors and moved on with our wildly fulfilling lives. Or you guys did, anyway. I just watched more football.

Anyway. Now, a month and a half later, the rumor has raised its awkward, gawky head again. Hmm. Granted, the source is Tribal Football, but still — six weeks is a pretty long time for a rumor not involving a Brazilian to survive. Could it be that these alleged conversations are actually happening? I don’t know about you, but I hope to hell it does, if only for the grand, elbow-filled battle that will be Crouch v Matrix. Oh, how the blood will flow.

A Crouch v Matrix match would be quality entertainment. (Everytime I see Crouch play, I can’t help but giggle to myself. He reminds me of a giraffe.)

well, I think they’re looking for a tall and heading finisher, to duet with Del Piero (as Deschamps said before that Saviola is too short to play together with Del Piero).

Well, Juve would certainly get someone taller than Del Piero–he might only comes up to Crouch’s belly button.

I hope this doesn’t happen. OVERRATED!

Well, at first Juve said the only way they’d sell Trezeguet to Liverpool is if they got Gerrard in exchange. I don’t think I need to comment on the ridiculousness of such a proposition. Then I saw this earlier today as well and I thought, Crouch isn’t tough enough for the Premiership, how is he going to make it in Serie A? But, hey, if Juve wants to do it, I’m all for it. Trezeguet is definitely a step up from Crouchy.
