To The Surprise of No One, Gudiolin is Out
By: Martha | April 7th, 2007
My first thought when I saw the Palermo result today was “Oh, this is it. Zamparini is going to lose his mind.” And, what do you know — he has: Manager Francesco Guidolin is gone, and someone from inside the club will take his place early next week. I’m no rocket scientist, but it’s been evident for a while that Guidolin’s position on the Palermo bench has been getting more and more shaky, and a 3-1 loss to Cagliari is a pretty obvious last straw for the ever-volatile Zamparini and the owner has put his foot down, at least for the moment.
Knowing Zamparini, of course, this “decision” could change by the end of the day tomorrow, but it’s impossible to deny that Palermo have been dreadful for months — Zamp says they’ve had a worse second half than Ascoli which, if true, is shockingly dire — and Guidolin certainly isn’t doing much to stop the bleeding. Or, in Zamparini’s words, the manager “seems very stressed, as he showed against Fiorentina. In my view he is transmitting that negativity to the squad. He ruined my Christmas and now he has also wrecked my Easter.”
You can lose as many games as you want, friends, but once you start ruining the owner’s holidays, time is short.
