Torino Suddenly Wake Up, Realize It’s Transfer Time
By: Martha | January 31st, 2007
In the last few hours of the January transfer window, Torino have suddenly pulled off more big(-ish) deals that pretty much every other club in Italy.
Obviously looking to strength their defense, they secured the on-loan services of both Cesare Bovo (from Palermo) and that dastardly smoker Francesco Coco (from Inter). Bovo is one of Palermo’s young guns, but has only played once this year (he was, sadly, standing quite nearby when Simone Pepe scored in the 90th minute to grab Cagliari that week 12 win). He’s been let go with the idea that he’ll regain his fitness and come back to Palermo all fired up and ready to … I don’t know, do something great next season. Coco, meanwhile, probably called Alberto Zaccheroni himself and begged for a deal. The poor man just wants to play.
Leaving Toro, meanwhile, are both Stefano Fiore, who cannot get along with Zaccheroni and therefore will finish the season on loan with Livorno, and defender Vedin Music, who is heading down to Serie B for a loan spell with Treviso. Whew.
Full credit to the suits at Torino — they’re clearly not content to spend the second half hoping for survival, while they warily hover just about the drop zone.
