Whither Ribery?

By: Martha | May 8th, 2007

A Festival of FranceThe rumors about Franck Ribery’s possible departure from Marseille have been in the air EVER since his fantastic display at last summer’s World Cup, and they’ve never really gone away entirely, even when he insists that if Marseille make Champions League he’s likely to stay (possibly because everyone thinks that’s a lie). And, when Ribery fired his “manipulative” agent earlier this week and started telling the press about his dream destinations, things took off anew.

The club has said all along that Ribery is free to leave, assuming someone will pay a fair price for him, and the boy is dreaming big, to the tune of: Man U, Barca, Real, Arsenal, Chelsea and Milan. (Apparently Juve aren’t good enough for him anymore. Or visa versa.) You know, all the small, poor clubs. Given Ribery’s obviously ability, it’d be hard for those teams — or anyone with money, for that matter — not to consider putting in a bid for the winger. That said, though, the guy never seems to stay anywhere for long, and the more cautious among them may end up deciding he’s not worth the risk. Plus, if the winter transfer window rumors are correct, he may secretly already be on his way to Arsenal, so there may be no point in anyone else even bothering.

Dude, I love Ribery. Not just for the Phantom of the Opera looks, but he was one of the few players (along with Sagnol and that guy, the headbutting one, what was his name again) I watched during the World Cup and went, ‘damn, I wish HE was playing for Italy.’

(Well, and Thuram. Because Thuram is a genius, and Cannavaro and Thuram = a love to last all time.)

I Love Ribery as well. I think the best possible team for him would be arsenal. He could play along side Henry, if he decides to stay. With Rosicky, Febregas,Ribery among others I think Arsenal would definately be a team in contention for the premiership next season.
