Would You Watch Mutu TV?
By: Martha | August 7th, 2007
Though those of us outside of Romanian would probably have to be satisfied with just reading about it (and praying for YouTube clips), the press there are reporting that Adriano Mutu has been approached to star in a reality show of his very own, which would focus on him (shocking, that) and his family — primarily, one imagines, his wife, who is apparently a folk singer, and something of a star of her own right in their native Romania.
According to an article in sports weekly Fanatik, Mutu is being offered €2 million to take part in said show, an amount which, if he’s not out of his mind, must certainly give him pause, seeing as how it exceeds his annual salary by at least 25%. Uh, WOW.
Well, I could certainly understand offering that much to put cameras in Mutu’s lovely, Florinetine estate if this was three or four years ago, and he was still having sex with porn stars and snorting coke off their various exposed body parts. But now? Now he’s just a grown man, living a quiet life at home with a wife and baby daughter. What’s fun about watching that? (Granted, his kid was baptized in an Armani dress, which could have been fun to ogle and scoff and, but that’s over, and her opulent sweet 16 is over a decade away.)
I mean, what’s the selling point here, apart from the pretty people? And how long could that possible work? Wait. The Hills is entering it’s third season, isn’t it? And that’s with no selling point whatsoever. Nevermind, it’ll work; shell out that €2 million, Romanian TV, and watch the ratings climb.*
*When this does happen, we’re going to need a Romanian corespondent to upload the important bits to YouTube. So, if you know anyone, put a good word now, please, so we can be prepared.
