Zambro-to-Milan Redux, While Tuttosport Love Sheva
By: Martha | December 5th, 2007
According to an article this morning in Barcelona-based El Mundo Deportivo, the likelihood of Gianluca Zambrotta (and his homesick wife) returning to Serie A — more specifically, moving to the red side of Milan — is increasing by the day.
The paper claims that, in addition to Mrs. Zambrotta’s issues of missing good pasta and a language she knows (I admit, I’m guessing at those reasons.), Zambro himself is also increasing dissatisfied with the amount of “space” he’s getting at the club, and wants to get home to Italy sooner than later. He’s also looking incredibly thin these days, something the article may or may not have mentioned (”weight equipment” sounds like it could be an accidental translation of “crossing ability,” or something), so maybe his wife isn’t the only one missing Italian food.
The winger/defender’s agent immediately denied the reports when contacted by calciomercato.com, insisting that, despite the obvious appeal of a move to Milan, there have been no talks whatsoever between the clubs, and that Zambrotta currently plans to see out his contract with Barcelona. Were he to move, however, the rumored cost is only £3 million, which is £7 million-ish less than what he cost Barca (€14 million, according to Wikipedia), and a penny out of the pocket for a club like Milan. Hell, they’ve probably lost that much in the couch cushions this week!
In other Serie A lostboy news, Tuttosport have decide Juventus need to want to take Andriy Shevchenko on loan. Just so you know.

El Mundo Deportivo is now reporting that Zambrotta’s not likely to go anywhere…I think we could easily lose him during the summer, but not during winter. He hasn’t been at his best recently, but he’s still a valuable part of this Barca team.
One reoccurring rumour is that Barca has already made agreements with Lahm once his contract runs out at Munich…but that’s not for another year, and I feel like the club is planning on making him a direct replacement for Zambrotta. When the only two other options are Puyol and Oleguer, it would be stupid to sell one of the world’s best fullbacks for cheap.

Yeah, Nolan, the El Mundo article is directly taken from the calciomercato piece I linked. It’s so hard to tell what bits of this are the blatant lies right now, the rumors, or the statements of Zambro’s agent, or both. The pricetag, though, does seem pretty low.

I believe ‘weight equipment’ is mostly used when talking about his importance in the team (says someone who has way too much experience reading articles Google-translated from Spanish.) :)
The price tag is insane. Whatever else the board may be, they’re pretty shrewd about money. And nothing’s going to happen in January.

Thanks, Linda, I knew them worrying about how thin he is was too good to be true.

The idea of giving up Zambrotta for so cheap is laughable…also if his thinness is that worrying he should just hang out with Ronnie some more (I’m sorry, I just had to do it)
