A Big Day for Napoli (Maybe)
By: Martha | August 21st, 2007
According to reports in Italy, the Napoli roster may have expanded by two by the end of the day, if sporting director Pierpaolo Marino’s Milan meeting with Juve’s Alessio Secco goes as hoped.
The two players in question are Marcelo Zalayeta and Manuele Blasi, and at the very least the deal for the former is expected to be concluded today: Napoli will pay about €3 million for Zalayeta, and reportedly already have a tentative agreement with the striker regarding contract terms. Things with Blasi, however, are a bit more complicated, as details of a possible loan deal are still being worked out. Talks with Monaco last week didn’t result in a sale and, since the player isn’t part of Juve’s plans for the season, it seems to everyone’s advantage to come to some sort of agreement. That said, since this deal was erroneously reported to be done a week ago, it’s anyone’s guess what will happen today.*
In addition, Napoli may be nearing an exchange agreement with Parma whereby Roberto De Zerbi would head out in exchange for Domenico Morfeo, of whose antics Parma may finally have had enough. Napoli, apparently, are eager to embrace said antics, as long as there are goals involved.
Edit: Or, if you read other sources, both deals will be for co-ownership. As usual, your guess as to what’s true is as good as mine.

screw Emerson. Forza Napoli! I can’t wait for Sunday. The deal adds depth to the midfield and gives Reja some options. I don’t think either of the players here really “move the needle” much in terms of quality, but any deal that means less Montervino, Savini, Sosa and Grava on the pitch is a good deal. Now if we can just get Riquelme…
