A Few Bits and Pieces for Monday
By: Martha | August 6th, 2007
•The Azzurri-France match at the San Siro next month is sold out — it took less than a week, and 25,000 tickets were sold on the first day. Damn, shoulda got mine earlier.
•Sven Goran Eriksson is facing a bump in the road in his bid to steal Azzurri keeper Marco Amelia from Livorno. Man City are reportedly ready to bid €7.5 million for the player (despite a broken bone is his hand which, depending on what you read, will either keep him out for six weeks or just a few days), but they face renewed competition from Lazio, whose move for Juan Pablo Carrizo seems to have fallen through.
•Another day, another destination for Julio Cruz. Today, his agent revealed that the eager Napoli (who want several of Inter’s cast-offs) are unable to meet Cruz’s wage demands, so the striker will stay at Inter. (Tune in next Monday for a new wrinkle in this story.)
•Crotone keeper Angelo Pagotto, who tested positive for cocaine for the second time last season, will face a lifetime ban for his little bit of fun if the requested punishment is imposed. Oops. Pagotto says he wants to stay in the game as a coach; it’s unclear to me if “lifetime ban” really means “lifetime” or just means he can never play again. If anyone knows for sure, please share.
•Roma are still chasing Real Madrid’s Cicinho; the latest in Italy is that they’re offering €7 million for the player, as well as a €2 million/salary (either that or he’ll move to Rome on loan). What’s that cap again, Chris?
•Valencia’s Stefano Fiore would really, really like to sign for an Italian club so he can stop training all by himself. The Spanish club don’t want him anymore, so he’s stuck training alone, trying to prepare himself to face the fitness test that he hope to god some club will be demanding he pass. Anyone? Bueller?

2.5m before bonuses.
After bonuses it’s a guess. 4m?

Wait, so what’s Mexes on? I thought it was €2.5 million, but they broke it for him, right? Or no?

No, 2.5m base plus bonuses taking it to 3.6m or 3.8m.
Very flexible.

Jesus CHRIST is that scary. But, as a bonus, he’s two figurines one: Dressed, he’s Pierluigi Collini, Referee to the Stars; naked, he’s that terrifying alien about which you sometimes have nightmares.

You have terrifying nightmares about naked aliens who resemble Pierluigi Collina?
